Hi all. I'm looking for Maya tutorials on getting textures onto a head model (connectPolyShape).

HERE (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12640) is a link to the WIP page of the model I want to texture... Below is what I got by doing the "Automatic Mapping" option.

Well for starters, don't use that automatic mapping. Try looking in the texturing forums for tutorials.
Really all you need to do is a projection for each side, the front, back, and chin.
Sew them up, and the top of the head shoudln't even matter since you will have hair I am guessing.

thanks for the tip. I'll play around with different mapping techniques and find out which one works best. Now that I know what's going on of course, I can finish modeling with no worries!!!

Hello wgeddes

She is one fine woman ayy,,,, I modeled her once. Yeah my fellow vancouver dude shogun is right...

Read on only if u are wanting to do a quicker job///

.But also look into cylindrical....I know a lot of people dissaprove...but the only coverage problem is the nose...and it doesnt takes much time to tweak the uv's on the nose....

PS .... It is always nice to do some of your mapping the old way U know before we had these great texture editors in our 3d apps....Like laying out your Uvs and keep emm in a semi tarnsparent layer in photoshop and layout your texture to fit...at least somwhat
