View Full Version : Beast of Burden - Character - renderman
renderman 07-06-2002, 12:10 AM Hi all-
Well, having been inspired by the EXCELLENT submission
of my business partner Mike (a.k.a. XVIVO)...
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12715
...I submit these beginning images.
These are just the initial roughed shapes...
I'm NOT a character model-guy (Mike is). I'm more of a renderer/TD/Compositor, but I wanted to try my hand at it anyway.
This is just the face for now. Starting slow...
Thanks for any comments!

Here's an update, made about an hour later...

And then this...
Things to work on: bridging the \gap between the legs and body )and arms and body); Adding muscles; creating the "burden" part...

And now this further refined model.
Still a LOOONNNGGGG way to go!
Legs still need a LOT of work, and the feet (don't get me started
on the feet!). There will, at some point, be a "burden". Really.
I mean it...

Another angle. Back needs a lot of work, too.

I can't think of anything to crit, just because this guy is too WEIRD. But I LOVE it anyways
Keep up the good stuff.

Thanks Tim.
But, there's ALWAYS something to crit!!!
I appreciate the nice comment, though!
:D
Liked the rendering on your entry, BTW. Nice softness to the image.
Here's and update of the back, with a secoind beastie added
for company.

WOW  now that's thinking out of the box! That is definetly a cool BoB.
The body/legs kind of remind me of a toad or something. i might consider pulling it in that direction when you begin refining the details.
Great stuff.

Thanks ZrO-1
Hmmmm. Toad-like. Never thought of it that way.
I'll give it some thought!
I'm done for the night. Gotta get home (I have a 2 hour drive
ahead of me). Last update for the weekend, just another angle,
a few model tweaks, and added a third beastie to balance the image.

I love all the little arms. They don't really seem to be connectiong to the body yet tho'..... ;)

Looks like what would happen if you crossed a crab, a tyranosaurus, and a pig... hehe
Definitely original, I'll give ya that man... Model on!

Thanks for the comments!
Hmmm. Pig/T-Rex/Crab-combo. Aha! You've found out that
I've been trying to cross-breed these creatures!
You are all witness to my horrible experiments!
Bwahhhahhhahaha!!!!
Ahem. I've regained composure again. Sorry.
dosadi, thanks for the comments, and I LOVED your most recent version of your entry. The character is cute, and worried at the same time. Nice job! Yeah, the arms are NOT connected yet (but they will be). Neither are the legs (yet).
Thanks for your comments too, kreno. Appreciate it.

Heh heh! Definately an original concept!
I think the hard corner on the cheeks, where the flat face meets the flat side of the neck, should be rounder. I think it looks good behind the eyes, but across the cheek it doesn't look "right", IMHO.
VERY STRANGE ,VARY NICE. augh!
