saw this (semi) well known photograph on a poster, and started thinking of the possibilities.

an update? ok... heres a detail of a hind limb.

so far i am thinking of little vicious crab soldiers, technologically enhanced (of course).

quickie update.

thanks for the responses! any input would be greatly appreciated.

i am trying to retain the inherent "cuteness" of the crab, but to also have the 'industrial twist' at the same time. kinda like a fluffy bunny with an assault rifle.

idea: using a shellac based material for the back of the shell to have a etched circuit board look under the gloosy wet finish. noting too in-your-face, just subtle pronouncement.

i was thinking of redesigning the face and the claw a bit, something a bit more 'chunky'. im not sure if these will make it into production just yet.

considering the setting that such a creature would be in.
crabs (as anyone that has lived near the ocean can tell you) are not too bright. even if they are hyped up on bioelectronic engineering, they still will challenge most anything and everything.

so far im am thinking of a boot or a barbie doll, set in a bedroom at night, with maybe some moonlight and a nightlite illuminating the scene.

Cybernetic crab!! Why hasn't someone done something like this before?? Great idea.

A lot of marine themes in this one. Well.. more than usual anyway...

Good work, keep it up =)

finally! tax season is over!

heres a quickie update with what i did yesterday. not too much in the way of development, but i decided to model 'in pose' in order to keep from adding detail to areas that wont be seen. im still trying to finalize a concept for the final scene, but have yet to haev any luck....

so i keep adding detail.

quickie composite test. the crab is mental ray and the bear is scanline.

currently trying to ge the feeling across that teh crab is trying to sneak up on the bear.

i really dont think i will be able to finish on time. i had a bit of file corruption, and now my meshes are all collapsed to the smoothed state. im trying to texture at exceedingly high polycount, utilizing multires and optimize where i can. last night my machine tried to lynch me.

we shall see

final image. whee.

i dont think going with the bear was teh right choice, as a fluffy object is hard to lend any sort of dynamicism to.

oh well.

gotta give props to the guys involved in the ornatrix project, see thread is the max forum here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=145059)
