View Full Version : what to do with this starting point
this is a picture several weeks ago and i do not know, how to finish the picture. it is a 2000x3000 pixel painter5 work.
it shows a very old alien device that produces wires. these are transporting a toxical gas which allows the species to see the future on dualis16 a parallel universe of paralya-cognolati. (stupid idea, i know)
i want to visualize a bad and dark future. how can this be done?

You need to tighten it up first and work out a good light source. It looks like default lighting. I can't really tell if it's indoors or out, but I feel like it should be out. If you want to create the feeling of bleakness I think you should decrease the size of the subject matter, and desaturate things a little. Try making the foreground dark and the bac light, and move off to the side.
hmm, yes it's the light i guess. the indoor-feeling is a must have because in my opinion this increases the size of the device. the position you suggested sounds interesting. i will try it out.
what does saturation mean? too colored?
thanx so far.

The only advice I'd give you here is to stay far away from anything that looks like HR Giger!! (those pipe thingys for example) He's a one trick wonder.

I have to disagree a little about an indoor atmosphere increasing the size of the device. As your picture stands now, there is no context for me to tell how large its supposed to be. It doesn't really feel indoors or outdoors. If I had to guess at the size, I'd probably say it was small. I think if you want to go for an indoor type atmosphere, there needs to be more information to the picture. Where's the walls, ceiling, door? If it's to be indoors, I'd be imagining a huge hall with very small door or windows.
As far as atmosphere, I agree with Gamaron...you could make the colors a little less vibrant and dark.
Good start...hope you post an update:)
