Ok, to start off, not a whole lot here, just some brain storming. Thought it might be cool to have some guy grafted perfanently into a central mainframe of a huge machine of destruction which is surrounding him made mostly of machine and incidentally, grafted with the skins of multiple bodies to make it look like flesh, organic in parts.
Also tried a sort of vampiric spy creation. Some sort of night-time flying silent creature.
Dunno which direction I want to go yet, I might not use either, just trying to get some ideas out now. Not a whole lot of time this week but should get alot more sketching done over the weekend.
BTW: Sorry for the crappy grainy scans. I do my sketching with 10% Cool Grey Prismacolor Markers so I had to raise the shadows and contrast really really high to get the linework to show.

those conceps are very "lovecraftian"
looking forward for detailed versions !

Did some more brainstorming today, getting closer to a final idea. I was liking the vampiric flying gothic spy girl or oguy look that I had but Ive already seen 2 other people whom are thinking of doing some sort of cyber winged angel girl or something (and I havent even had a chance to even look at half of the other threads of work so far) so I don't wanna flood that area or step on anyone's toes. It was a very early idea so not a big deal to move on and try some other things. I could always come back to it as I dont think it was close enough to anyone else's ideas to be considered copying or anything but nonetheless I wanna try and stay as original as possible in this competition.
So here's a few more images and ideas:

Ok, here's my first milestone. One of the final images from my latest beainstorming sewssion. I'm really liking this direction here so I think I'm going to be moving forward with this idea and flesh (no pun intended) it out some more. Wanted to do some sort of freaky all-purpose nurse with her body manipulated for all the standard emergency room gear all mounted and ready and portable. SHe's more of a nurse though as she would operate on you right then and there. Although, it's sort of future primitive in that her methods are somewhat archaic and you probably wouldn't want her doing any work on you even if she COULD save your life. So is born the Nefarious Nurse.
03-21-2004, 07:03 AM
Oops, forgot to mention. I wanted her to have a sort of Voodoo Doctor edge to her too as partly reflecting her archaic methods, sans the technoprimitive headdress, :-)
(Or I guess she could be a genetically manipulated love-slave girlfriend of Marilyn Manson, heheheh)

Nice concepts Feeesh! They are really free and innovative, especially the second and the third one. The only thing I am concerning is that your final image might not be as attractive as the previous ones. I donft know exactly what their differences are but there is definitely something there in the second concept. (However, I love the design of the head of last character, so keep it please!) And I guess thatfs for now. Good work!

This would've been my lineart entry but Im not sure Im happy with the pose or if it's too boring. What do you guys and gals think? Cool? Boring?
I mostly wanted to flesh out (no pun intended) my last sketch a little more. Just refine some of the details and make sure they all had meaning instead of pointless details for the some point of adding useless detail. Addint things like asmall computer console on the left (her right) forearm for sending and receiveing medical info about patients. Each hands protrude devices out fo the fingers, such as scalpels and surgery items out of the left and syringes out of the right. The syringes pump various fluids from the saline bags protruding from her back and various tubes and canisters connected to her back. She is meant more for field work such as in battle or otherworld workers with minimal amenities and living conditions. Despite her archaic methods and dreadful look, to the bleary eyed injured individual, she (her silhouetted shape) could almost take on an angelic apearance or that of a goddess which I thought was somewhat appropriate.
Let me know your thoughts about the piece. All C&C welcome. Thx!

Just some head sketches of the character, now that I have her look worked out. Just trying to get a little more comfortable drawing her for laying out the final image ideas.

THis isnt my coloring WIP milestone yet, just more sketching to experiment with colors a bit (even though there isnt much color in this pic, heheh). But she is going to have white/greyish albino skin tone.

Why people havent commented on your thread as much they should. I specially like those first sketch done with some kind of water type pen or something.
About the pose you thought might be too stiff. Well yes its stiff if she is supposed to be there with no background, but something cool for the support for the background would have worked i hope.
I can't comment on your coloring yet since its just the beginning.

Hei, nice work!!!
05-05-2004, 04:33 AM
This has so much charcter. A realy cool idea and I really like the line art. Your painting style is looking like it's gonna blow the line art away!!!
Can't wait for more updates to top-up my nurse fetish!!!!!

:) Great sketches and I like the concepts.
I look forward to seeing the next stage.....any ideas on how the environment will look??
05-27-2004, 07:31 AM
Nice sketches bud, keep the updates coming. Theres something kind of gothic about your concepts the style of the clothes maybe. Nice simple colour work on the chicks head. Keep it up.

Thanks all for the comments.
MrFreeman - not sure on the environment yet, still wokring that out. Not sure if I want her active with off-world military work in the field possibly or if I want to keep her in a medical facility of some sort (might make for a more interesting backdrop) and where or what kind it would be, military, civilian?
Ive been a bit slow with the updates the last couple weeks because Ive been busy with work but I'm going to get some sketching done for the final layout of the piece so I can get the final lineart milestone completed ASAP because Im a slow painter and will need a good amount of time. Don't want to be rushed. So hopefully I should have alot of updates over the next week or so.

Ho ho..there is some good sketches here:)
..........................................................................................................any ideas on how the environment will look??
I don't think the environment is the most important in this challenge...:p

I love the works so far. The hands are very interesting and I am a big fan of the headdress! Looking forward to the rest of the work.

Ack, time's running out. Work and everyday life obligation bullcrap has been killing me and leaving me zero time. I plan to have the final lineart as well as a few more sketches uploaded this weekend and I want to start painting by Sunday. I think I have a good pose worked out for it. Will post some new work Saturday and hopefully meet the lineart milestone Sunday as well as some WIP on the start of the coloring. Gonna be a sleepless week next week trying to finish up around work and stuff. Hoping I can finish in time. Time is short though, ugh!!!!!!:hmm:

HEre's some more sketches as Im trying to figure out a good idea for the final image. Just trying out lots of different views and poses. I had a few that I liked but they didn't really show off her modifications, which is the point of this contest so I had to scrap some interesting ideas.
06-13-2004, 10:54 PM
Here's some more along the same lines.
06-13-2004, 10:56 PM
I think this is the image I'm going to go with. Still a little undecided. I like the compositiona nd the pose in fron tog what will be a window to a spacescape. Eitehr war or metropolis or something. An environment where a person like her is needed. I do like the front shots of her outfit and modifications so I hate to lose that, but I also like all the tech on her back ass well (only a small part of which is shown in the sketch, lots of tubes and wires).
06-14-2004, 06:55 AM
Hey!! Really cool sketches!! I really like the pages of figure drawings... And the first version of your lineart is nice. I'm not sure i'd want her operating on me though!!
I'd say the second version is a more interesting pose, although i know what you mean about wanting to show the detail on the front. When you spend some time imagining things from all angles then it's really difficult to give up on some of those well-thought-out details. But the shot from behind is a stronger image in my eyes....
I reckon we've both got some late nights ahead of us, eh?
Good luck getting it done!!
06-14-2004, 08:13 AM
Welp, I was torn between my very early sketch and the last one I posted but after looking at some more that other people have done, I found two others that had similar poses of female characters with wings in a similar pose. Even though my character is a completely different idea, I didn't want to stick with a post that was so similar, especially this early in the piece when I can feasibly make a change. SO I'm going with my earlier version which is sorta funny. I go through pages of sketches to end up with the first idea, heheh. Anyway, here it is, my Line Art Milestone. Now onto the coloring!!! Give me strength without sleep this week! heheh
06-14-2004, 09:00 PM
Nice sketch - very french style I would say
06-15-2004, 03:03 AM
Starting out with the color scheme, getting the background painted over........
06-15-2004, 03:05 AM
Same as the last color WIP but with the character laid on top to show where she'll be placed.....
06-15-2004, 06:27 AM
Filling in the figure now...........working on the details in the face soon.
06-16-2004, 07:09 AM
Some more progress. Smoothing out the face and arm. Started to paint the headdress. Decided gold would be a good color ot match the color scheme and ADD a bit more color since most everything is white and grey with only hints of color.
06-16-2004, 05:51 PM
wow, no comments? guess it's perfect so far! heheh :p
06-17-2004, 07:51 AM
More progress. THinking Im probly not gonna finish in time now, but we'll see. There's still tomorrow but I think I have incredibly too much to do still. THis is my first real painting and first in Corel Painter (only color work Id done before this was a handful of colored pencil pieces) so it's hard to estimate the amount of time Ill need but Im still gonna give it my best shot here! ANy comments and critiques are more than welcome. Haven't heard hardly anything about this piece yet.
06-17-2004, 07:58 AM
:applause: Don't give up yet feesh...you can get a lot done in two days....
I really like your concept and the character is really coming on...
I'm new to Painter myself, so can't really help give you any estimate of how long it will take to finish....the WIPs look great and I really hope you get there...
I can't really add anything else at this late stage that may help...just keep going...Good luck and I can't wait to see the final version:applause:
06-18-2004, 07:23 AM
More progress.............I am pathetically slow.......honestly though its a bit of a personal success considering Id never painted before, analog or digital. And Im liking how it's turning out so far so I'm going to go ahead and finish it anyway and submit it to Expose 3 or somewhere else! So keep an eye out here for more updates even after the competition ends as Ill continue to update and finish. If they close this thread to new posts, Ill start a new WIP thread continuing this one in the 2D forum. Thanks for everyone's input, and please give more if you have the time. I'm a green painter!
