Nice to see you're in, Dimitris!

About the concept - if I dare be entirely honest (I know you can handle it) it is sort of a bit too RoboCop imho. The head is different of course (neat hair-do btw :D ) but overall it doesn't feel quite "there"... Just my humble observation.

That aside, best of luck fleshing the machines!

@ JamesMK ...hahaha...i know what u mean ....hahaha...but i have to start drawing from somewhere (thought i mean)...i will throw many of the robocopish stuff in 3d if i will deside to make him..Still trying to make some new thoughts ...difficult ...Thanks man!!!

Mm'OK: blam blam blam! :p

No, seriously, I'll view this as the first step of a subtractive/self-generative conceptualization process and await further updates...

Bring it O.N.!

Dreamwave
03-19-2004, 06:29 PM
yeah, James is absolutly right. I think I said this in another thread too, but there are so much Robocop-like concepts, you really need to be original...

(look at the winner of the last competition, originality really counts)

That one could turn out to be quite interesting. I envision a dark, humid environment... some dirt and blood.... A general feeling of heavy and unforgiving machinery.... mmmm'yeap.

DimitrisLiatsos
03-21-2004, 06:24 PM
Thanks James...
I hope i will show this dark bloody mood with this MachineFlesh Soldier i have imagined...it's pretty easy to be just another Big Gun half man - half robot thing....i hope i will avoid that.

i will think of it a little more...maybe another idea will pop out too. ...maybe more unique...maybe not......lol...i need coffee!!!

Coffee always saves the day (even if it is evil).

You're right that there is a slight risk of predictability here - but then again, I know you can pull it off without going there.

Have to pop in again and say "insane mechanics!"

- - - A stupid side note though::.. those rubber (I assume) belts running through the guns base device - looks a little bit like a very vulnerable feature on such an otherwise powerful and near-indestructible device - - - then again, you could call it 'Achilles' :)

Yikes! You're right, you should cut down on the coffee.... Amazing stuff, most likely the bad-assest implementation of machinery in the challenge so far - - - is it correctly set up too? I mean, can you animate it? That would be WIKKID.

@ Antropus thanks man

JamesMK
03-26-2004, 12:01 AM
Well, I'm honored to have named such an evil device... Besides, the name fits so well in at least two different ways that I know of, I could not avoid suggesting it.

Now we wanna see some flesh jammed into this construction! Just force it into whatever vacant space there is, big chunks... don't hold back.

DimitrisLiatsos
03-26-2004, 12:09 AM
@ JamesMK hahahaha....ok flesh will come ...we have time ...but first i have about the same amount to add in mechanics...lol...i have to complete his mechanical part to the point of being operational!....but flesh will come ....and it will come big...

Mechanisms :)
With the sight of all this work of modeling I
am dribbling me above. I am in a hurry to
see a little flesh to the orders of this
machine. I do not have the sketch of the
concept under the eyes, but for the
moment I find that a little unstable
lol
But that tears guy! Amazing modeling!

I would like to ask you, which software do
you use ? Did you used any special software for the rendering ?
What computer do you use :)
that's all... for the moment

@harnelbe , ***D!D*** ...thank u very much for your kind words friends from France.
The software used is Maya Complete 5 and render is Mental Ray for Maya. Modeling has polys , Nurbs and some SubD...not for any special reason ...just it is easy for my mind to use at the time (...lol).

a very impressive:eek: mechanism you figured out. its one of my favourites but i think as its supposed to be a war machine it should look more used up. especially the texture looks too smooth and clean to me. Please feel free to correct me if i misunerstood something.

wow, your mechanism is looking really fine, how can you figure out all thos mech parts, you should have a good reference or youre completily insane!, love the details, but want flesh!!, just kidding, all looks really promising, keep the insane work mate, ohh a little little crit, for me guns looks a bit square, but looks good, i dont know much about guns so ignore this stoopid crit:drool:

Oh, man, truly a mechanical abomination never before seen (and hopefully never again after this :D )

No, what can I say... it's freakalicious. Too sweet. Absolutely inspiringly weird and wicked.

NOW TOSS SOME MEAT IN THERE, DUDE!

awesome model thus far, really looking forward to the "flesh" getting mixed it... you have the 'recktor set going now we just want to see how this beast will bear the burden of life :) looking awesome though, keep up the great job.... if you get a chance post a colored mesh up here, would be wild to see the parts break down mesh wise:wavey:

Looking nice.Modeling looks tight.Wish you could lighten things up a touch,as it's a little tough to make out some details.I agree with others that it should be less smooth, more dirty,it being a war machine and all.Maybe bent here and there.Plus the little wheel works for toons, but your machine looks real World, maybe enlarge it a little,to make more sense.Anyways fine job, nice detailing.

@ chui1675,zero2zillion thank u guys for your kind words.

@Dr.Paint,rattlesnake,ob-123,JamesMK,Shadow Seraph,Vladvrz ...thanks guys . As for the shiny shader is just a shader i use to show the model 'cuase a co-challenger Mathias likes it very ...it is not textured properly yet...still modelling wip....
As for the flesh - skin - matter.....we have time ...i just have an order in my mind about it which i don't want to destroy right now..
i will complete most of mechanics in a desireable stage and the move on flesh.
Anyway a screen from modeling viewport is following to sho wip in a more clear way.:bounce: :bounce:

Hey there, Dimitris,

The design is just outstanding.. The details are great... But

I know this is your idea.. and now to change somthing would be just not rational.. But If its ok.. I'll write some critiques...

The bigest flaw that cought my eye is the stability of your construction... the base of wheels is just too narrow, long, but narrow... The death machine like this would be an easy target if to attack it from side... The second thing is the guy sitting on the front wheel... the idea itself is cool, but to drag such an arsenal behind him, is quiet a dangerous thing to do.. Its because of the bus effect.. (you know when you sit in the bus the most bumpy ride is when your seat isdirectely above the wheel) the same thing here... Also the possibility of getting shot buy your own bullet is quiet big. But.. If there is an advanced system which controls the antishocks so I think the bumpy ride is not a problem.. And if there is a system which locks the fire from the gun when it is pointing at the driver so this is also not a problem.. But on the other hand the reduction of fire power and possibility of attack from those blind spots is increased twise.. Still the second flaw is not so big as the first one..

But if to look on the good side... The design is very impresive.. I like the mechanism which holds the gunsand the idea wheels there thin tyres.. I'm just quirious where are you planing to place an engine for this monstorsoty.. (if there'll be an engine at all)

well such a coment for now.. Sorry if some thing where mensioned earlier... I didn't follow the whole thread unfortunately

still, great work untill now, keep it up!!!

ExanJU,Big_Fish Thank u guys ...Flesh will be in balance and i think in big scale....as for the machinery logig ExanJU many of the stuff u mentioned it's been thought out since my concept (but maybe it doesn't show too well)...as for motor i have some thoughts ..not in concept drawn but for sure in final model.
Don't worry about guns falling or guns hiting the Man in front...everything is been taken care of.....i think...lol

While the modeling is good, lot's to look at,I have to agree with ExanJu!!!fantasy yes,but still off in any chance of possibility of this thing to work.Maybe with toon, but this is too much on real side.Still a fine piece, perhaps with time more will become clear.

i think the details on the body are cool, but maybe for a more athletic pose u can pull back the shoulders a little bit; and i think theres something weird on the abdominals,
this is a great update, sorry im just making crits without experience, cos is a fact your modeling skillz are better than mine,

JamesMK
04-03-2004, 06:07 AM
It's a great start on the upper body, but I think maybe it needs some more tweaking.

I'd say there are three main problems with it currently:

- The arms and shoulder muscles are way more meaty than the upper chest area and pectoralis, making the whole upper torso look very unbalanced. Either make the arms slimmer or beef up the chest.

- The torso volume feels a bit boxy/rectangular (as a whole, and in certain details like the biceps) and would probably need some more curvature (sort of towards a more cylindrical volume)

- The sum of the two points above amount to a slightly toony appearance, which simply clashes with the realistic (yet warped) look of the mechanical monster this guy is attached to.

That said - it's great to see you're working on the flesh factor now!

markw7
04-03-2004, 07:40 PM
James had some great suggestions, I think. I've been drooling over the vehicle: over-the-top in detail but not distorted in scale. I think the mechanics have a reality-factor that's lacking in the flesh, which seems too distorted to me. Too cartoonish, I guess, which isn't always a bad thing but doesn't seem to fit with what came before. Just my 1 cent.

DimitrisLiatsos
04-04-2004, 06:47 PM
@ rattlesnake, JamesMK, markw7 ..guys thanks for your observations ...
well JamesMK is CORRECT and the points he is talking about are on target...i realized late at night when i saw what i posted ...again... that i am destroying the look i want to achieve in the model with that kind of body in front...also the errors there...it is (and u are all right there!!!) very cartoonish like and the rest isn't ..and to tel u the truth .. i don't want it to be....so i 'll be posting new beginning at the body...Thanks guys

:wip: :wip:

..and rattlesnake my modeling skills are not better than yours ...i would say worse..but thank u for your kind word:bounce:

Oh, much much better, strange greek person! :D

Now you're on the right track with your fleshy bits.

Two minor things: the clavicle definition is a bit too strong towards the shoulders (front view) - - - the pecs could use some more rounding of their lower-inner corners - - - TOP NOTCH looking backside! Yee-haw! (that's 'yee-haw' in swedish).

markw7
04-05-2004, 04:51 PM
That was fast. Nice work. I also think the deltoid is a little plump (I haven't even started my own entry so who am I too advise?), but maybe this version falls better within the overall piece. Are you going for a clean half and half centaur look or a more interwoven machineflesh look? I'd vote for the latter if you haven't decided yet.

Oh, hot semi-nekkid chick :D I like how you've beefed up her upper back/shoulder area... like a female east-european athlete.... I can't help but think that I would want to see her hips a little bit wider though... just to get some sweet curves for her silhouette... Nice leather works too... those boots are made for serious ass-kicking action no doubt.

It would be nice if her face was overly cute... for contrast!

Hey Dimitri its coming along well.

I just gotta say that your characer work has improved so much from your early challenges. This chick is looking great. I can't really fault the proportions other than the shoulders might be a little too wide... but maybe she's a beefy chick eh??

The design on the costume is fantastic. I love the subtle ribbing and straps. very nice work.

Cool gloves, Dimitris... Looks like they are able to interface with some sort of on-board holographic battle control PC thingy.... :D

Some crits on the head : Eyes should go further down; the head could perhaps look better if scaled down a bit along the Y-axis making it less tall and a bit more roundish; make the mouth a bit wider and lips less thick.... All IMHO of course

Yasou Dimitri,

Very nice work. I really like the white hair and the shape you have given it. And great machine model too that I saw earlier. :)
The face/head is looking really cool...keep up the good work!

One thing, I think the neck area needs some tweaking: it looks like something is pushing the skin up...like when you stretch and pull down your lower lip and those tendons/muscles under your neck pull up/out! Try it and you'll see what I mean.

Cool dude. Looking great so far. I like the efforts you put in to making the suit not symmetrical in the abdomen area. The hair looks sweet too. I think it really adds some character to your...um....character. :)

As far as a crit goes, I would relax her neck muscles a bit. It looks as though she's in a constant of inhalation. Looks like she got stuck breathing in. Try making her neck more cylindrical and having those muscles that go on either side of the windpipe. You know what I mean? This, of course, is just my opinion.

Detailing on the suit looks great too.....

kmest
04-21-2004, 08:17 PM
hahaha,now thats good.
i like the hair and the suit.the head is realy good, but i think there are some more tweaks needed in the lip sides and the nose, and even the eyes.and i agree, better work more on the neck too.
but any way,it's realy good dude.:applause:
keep uploding more,i'm waiting.:bounce:

Trenox
04-21-2004, 08:27 PM
This is some really good modelling - I especially like the suite.

But even if you want her to look strong i still think that she looks a bit too much like a male. I think maybe the key is to make her profile look female. Like a really curvy waist and broader hips. Dont know if it makes any sense but i thought it might be a good idea =)

@ M25Driver thanks Theo - Yasou !!! - u are right about neck ...it needs work...up to now i just have pulled vertice up to see how the neck will be ...thanks!
By the way i LIKE the wife concept of yours (and very pro presentation of the colors used...i would go with that one)

@ Sandpiper, kmest thanks guys ..neck part will be updated soon !

@ Trenox thanks man....u are right for the suggestion to be more sexy and female...i don't know though if i want it to be so sexy...everyone is making sexy girls...i want her to look strong -- bad a
ss and a little of Body Builder proportions just to justify what she will do in the final composition.......but anyway ...let me again see wht i can do!!!!
