in my experience I never go from my 3d app directly into a movie. I usually go to a frame sequence and then use a compositor to generate my final movie. This gives you a lot of flexibility and the ability to do som post-processing on your frames. There is a way to render out to movies in maya but i hated it. I would just render to a tif and then use a compositor to make the final movie sequence.

Simple answer: from fcheck you can't. It doesn't support anything other than a series of frames. Use Premiere or a compositing package to make your movies.
