Here's a walk cycle for my creature/concept I posted like a week ago. I'd really like some critiques and feedback on the animation. It seems fundamentally sound, but nothing special. I'm not sure how to take it up a notch and make it more dynamic. I don't have much experience animating, (this is like my seventh attempt) but I think I might have good potential, I don't know. Watchoo guys think?

first off, looks nice. nice textures and animation.

but, at first look, i see this creature with huge jointed legs, i would think it would use these legs as its primary weapons [speed]. but your animation shows it stomping down, slowly, like it was built like a tank. if he was made for speed, i would picture a smoother, gentle walk.

have you ever seen Aeon Flux? there was an episode that had these characters with long legs. anyways, Aeon gets ran down by one through some wires mesh because its made for speed.

thats just me. i don't know its back story or reason, so if i'm off, just ignore me.

I would tend to agree. Long legs usually indicate high speed. However. a createure capable of high speed is also capable of low speed.

Here are my crits on the physics of a creature designed like that, walking at that speed.(and you should make him running as well, that would look real cool)

I think that any creature with that much side wieght, would wak with one leg in the center, supporting it's wieght. All 2 legged animals walk like this.

Well... that's it... ;)
Fantastic model, lots of imagination. Please post further animations of this. it is a wonderful model.

Hey, very original monster you made there. I agree with the others to make him walk smoother and i think you should make his head beeing more stationary and not moving that far up and down. Though it's an alien, but as far as i know all creatures tend to hold their heads(eyes) still while moving, at least they try it....i think.

I'd like to see his tail out behind him, swishing back and forth to aid his balancing (which is off as has been pointed out). I think the tail curling in underneath is appropriate for an idle stance but I think it should have function in his movement.

I think there is some disparity in his design; the feet look very heavy and load-bearing, like they're meant for some large hooved beast of burden or something (I guess they're toes or claws or something but they're more reminiscent of hooves to me), and the 'heavy' walk cycle is very appropriate to that. However his body design is very light and fleet, as has been mentioned.

I dunno, altogether he just looks kind of "pieced together" to me, that's just what I see when I look at him. I guess the subject matter isn't really my style anyway though :)

Thanks for the crits everyone. I think you all have offered some valid points, which have made me think about some things that I did not really consider before. I'm about to start on a run cycle, which I'll post either today or tomorrow. Thanks.

i personally love it!! i dont tend to think about the physic's of a model when i make it since most of my models are ships or guns(futeristic) static objects! so to me the walking animation is really well done!! and i personally love that it is low poly and it looks amazing!!! mostly due to really good texturing! but the textures look alittle flat!..other then that one small thing it is a whole package!
