View Full Version : Character Design: Chiay Bukio
Chris Anderson 03-15-2004, 04:52 PM I hope this post is within the posting rules guidelines. I posted multiple images of the same character,
a full color portrait, a full body, and facial expressions to show what and who this character is.
This character is Chiay Bukio, one of the ten characters I'm working on for a short comic called , 'Impervious'.
She is a warrior from the extreme far future who works with four other warriors. Their goal is to kill the
government made of demigods, who control and supress the people of their world.
I was going for a unique female character with unique armor and weapon designs to portray a different look for
the comic than what most people are used to. In her face I wanted her to look like she has some life experience.
I'd be honored to get critiques on what your thoughts are about her look and design.

Very good character, her face expression is very original. The only critic is the dress, it could be more "future".

I like this character. The expressions are very "impish" for the lack of a better word. She looks mischievous and she also appears to be able to kick your butt with all those weapons. I also like the fact that she doesn't have your typical "Barbie" cloned perfections for female comic book characters.
The color portrait is appealing to me as well. Very free and alive.
I haven't any criticism other than she looks to have very long appendages (long arms and legs) However, that could just be artistic license. Haha :) and I'm by far no expert.
Anyhow, well done.

Impressive. Original, and you're good with the expressions. Some people can't really transmit what they want, you are quite good at this.

I'm not superfond of the clothes, I mean who fights in a sweet corset dress with a cleveage, nobody would do that
The integration between modern/traditional elements of the clothing could have been better imho, the dress is more victorian age and the rest is cyborg-tech style.
Before you think i slash your work here, i do really like it: She has attitude, your technical skills definitely kick ass and it's also nice to see something different from the standard "nice looking babe with big gun" female for a warrior character. Keep it up!

Jawine - Your crit proves to me the importance of value and color in a character design. What I mean by that is, the dress, the skirt area, is made out of a tough but light material. It's purpose is to protect the legs and lower body from different types of attacks to some percent. It's difficult to show the texture and material of cloth in a line drawing. She has cleavage, but where the breasts are, is a half metallic half fabric undershirt that help with protection along with the over shirt. So her breasts are covered. The over shirt is a looser material so she's more comfortable when fighting, kinda like a karate suit but way more sophisticated. The undershir is tight on her body, and is connected to a harder material underneath that you can see on the arms by the wrist. I can't wait to color her realistically so that it is more appearant what the materials in her wardrobe are, and look and feel like. The way she will be colored, will show the intergration of modern and traditional elements better. This crit really pushes me to show off how she looks in color, in a realistic sense, to bring her more to reality. Thanks for the hardcore crit!
Tarod - Thanks alot, expression is the first, and one of the main things I like to consentrate on.
NinjaSuz - I'm glad you like this. I'm into creating characters that aren't so typical, especially female characters. Mostly because I get tired of seeing the same ol cliche' and unrealistic characters I usually see in movies and on TV, and comics. And yeah, I got a little carried away with the length of her arms and legs. It's because I was working on too big of illustration board.
Amilton - Thanks. I agree about the dress, it will be easier to show the future look of it in color.
Josh - :D
OrcOYoyo - Thanks
Bartosz - Thanks a lot.
