View Full Version : Weapon:Henry Repeating rifle
Texan 03-15-2004, 08:18 AM Well i made this rifle for a civil war mod for ghost recon and we have already released it we are doing an update and i decided to remake all of the models / textures . I gotta keep the rifles below 300 because of the way the missions are scripted since there are atleast 100 guys around you at all times to try and give you the atmosphere of civil war combat
This is my first texture ive ever made for a gun before so if would really love it if you guys could tell me what to improve and how
I know there are some things i could fix like on top of the receiver you see how i couldnt get a straight line :( . BTW how can i make a better wood texture for the weapon

Gun sits around 248 polygons right now

Is this a first person or third person weapon model? I'm guessing It's third by the way you described it. Not sure if Ghost recon supports alpha or not, but I'd try to make the sights on the gun alph mapped polys to save a few tris. Looks lik youve got a few polys just in those.
Post up a wirefrome so people can give you tips on where exactly to save polys.
The woods fairly good in my opinion, as far as grain and realistic wood goes. Try to weather it a bit though, dings scratches, things of that nature. Also, it needs some shading applied. Highlights and shadows to help give the illusion of form.

For ghost recon only time you see the weapon is when you walk up to it you never see it in First person . just a reticle
Yea ghost recon does support alpha mapping and i was thought that would be a good way to do the iron sights but i had no idea how do it .

The lever is the highest poly on the whole thing at 74

If you see right there in the middle when i was extruding i left enough room so when i brought it back around i could weld those verts and save a couple polys

Ironsights are around 66 polys and the cylinder i removed the bottom 2 polygons that wont be seen same thing on the barrel where it goes into ther receiver.

Guess ill keep on working on the texture the best i can cause i really want this to look good

you might wanna add a lil bit more detail too it
tho it might be your aim to keep it so low
and yeah texture will make it better
