Hi!
Im pretty new to maya and is struggeling with charactersetup atm. Ive seen there are alot of diffrent approches and I have seen many diffrent skeleton styles. Now when im makeing my own Im a little confused. Were should there be extra joints and what purpose does it have? So show me your skeleton/jointsetup in here and give me some tips to make a good skeleton.

thx in advance

Hi aylien,

don't know if you can use it, but here is a tut "Character Rigging In Maya" made by Steven Tubbrit... -->
http://www.steven-tubbrit.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Tutorials/Tutorial_04.htm
(if the direct link doesn't work, just go to his main site, and click on "games", to see the tutorials)...

Were should there be extra joints and what purpose does it have?

eh... it is a bit different, but some put e.g. extra joints in the lower arm to get a twist in the lower arm, when the wrist rotates... some put some extra joints in the upperarm to get some extra deformation there... some even use joints to simulate muscles... :)

there is also a nice tutorial section on LearningMaya about rigging... -->
http://www.learningmaya.com

hope it helps... :)

regards
