View Full Version : when will XL 8 be available?
ThirdEye 07-05-2002, 09:33 AM I am very anxious about it, anyone who know if at Siggraph...

I dont know about siggraph, but I remember Rick said he would keep us up on new news over the coming months on XL 8 new features,so I would say it could probably be 3 - 4 months away yet,or even longer.

Those of us who know can't really say anything right now. Sorry.
Maxon has made a few official statments about what to expect for XL 8 and despite rumors no release date has been announced. Thats all we can offer at the moment.
Looks like Spring 2003 is a safe bet.

It will be nice if you meet that announced deadline, but not that big of a deal if you don't, as long as you finish by spring.
Not to turn this thread into a feature request thread, but I'm very excited by the work that is being done on the CA tools, though I don't know the details, I have to trust it's being done right. But I am also concerned about two features that I think are essential for me to have in order to complete a movie with Cinema. File Referencing and animateable clothing with motion dynamics or soft cloth. File referencing because a group of people have to work simultaneously, and cloth because well the reason is obvious, isn't it?
Anyone can tell me about plans for these?:wip:

SIG is July 23-25 in San Antonio, Texas. From what I hear, the water's subsided and the floods have moved north, so we should have fabulous 100 degree weather with 97% humidity. So as you can imagine, CINEMA 4D won't be the only thing hot at the show.

anyways While everyone is in the Sig mood I'll pout and do some goo ol fashioned drawing for some classical animation, should have some linetests for you all in a day or two.
Who needs Cinema 8 that just means Ill have to shell out more money I dont have...

Hey, Welcome Ndat, interesting models you have, though they need some better lighting to show off the models and textures.

Who needs CINEMA at all? Let'S all work with clay and stop motion ;) I like Ray Harryhausen ;)
How many UNDOs do I get with Clay? :D

oh come on now, admit it you all have one day or another thought "man if only I couuld undo that one thing, like that stupid thing you said to the beautiful girl on the street (assuming you get out and actually walk on the street, and the unlikely chance there is a beautiful girl you get to talk to there. )
Beautiful Girl?
I don't think my wife would like that...
I wonder sometimes how many undo's she has....
hmmmm
But waitaminute...
I managed to bring in some great news about a character animation system coming to Cinema4D at long last (what we've allwanted for a long time) and nobody's noticed... :(
Stephan
07-10-2002, 07:26 AM
I don't notice and comment on anything that has to do with XL 8 before I'm allowed to ;)
Yeah.. I know that girl-story... I go like "Whew!" and want to undo just before my wife slaps my face...:wip:

I don't feel like making a new thread for this so I'll put it here. Are there any render boxes that support c4d? I haven't really looked at them, I read an article about one pinnacle had that supported max and maya a long time ago, made me wonder...
Hey if your a baby Im a fetus Im olny 15 but I do have a girl friend so I guess i some ways Im ahead of you : ). j/k Oh and if your wondering how Im so yong and have cinema 4d it was because my progress through the grades was somewhat accelerated and Im now taking a class so I got a discount :surprised lucky me. THis 3d stuff turned out to be one of the hardest damn things expesially since the teachers a moron.

If you want two good teachers, I will be going back in August to Teach as an Artist in residence again as soon as I graduate, and I will be teaching with the man who taught me, of course you will have to move to Edmonton Alberta Canada hope thats not a problem lol. I started using strata at school when I wss fifteen, and was using Nendo and XL at sixteen, and mirai a little after that. I was teaching XL at ninteen, and now I just turned 20 and am on the beta team.
Of course I could try and brag, but there is always that Donovan Kieth Kid, you know the one with th Character animation plugin for XL that he made while in highschool at fifteen, I'm not sure if he is seventeen yet I don't think so. He's a really great and friendly guy, and teaching XL and and Character animation as well.
Wow lol I didn’t realize that people starred so early... On the Newtek board everyone was old and wrinkly. Canada actually isn’t that far away per say but that would me jumping schools midway through and that would be awkward especially when Im not going to school to do this. Im going to be a chiropractor --unenthusiastic yeah -- :( :( :(
so the student becomes the teacher, hehe that could be intereasting  flunk him muwhaaaaa... j/k unless he deserves it :)
Just wondering whats the beta team?
LucentDreams
07-10-2002, 05:00 PM
basically the guys that ets it out and make sure that XL 8 is what everyone is looking for, and makes sure it works.

I'll just say that being at animation school working on a film all day, I spend hours on XL with no sleep talking with people from all over but mainly germans all night, Ironically I get to spen little time with the north americans which is odd.
Stephan
07-12-2002, 09:42 AM
The germans are just testing harder than the north americans ;) Just a joke...
LucentDreams
07-12-2002, 09:45 AM
maybe, but for me Iget home typically an hour before the german ofice opens

Sounds to me like they need someone who can speak German and lives this side of the pond ....."ME! ME! PICK ME!!!!"
....and is going back to school this year to do a HND in Multimedia (providing his application form gets there, finds a referee in time and quits his job in time....lol" all this at 28......I feel so old around you kids......! But did manage to finda college that uses XL 7 for all its 3D work.......but uses Mac's....lol.

I'm doing this 3D hobby now for almost 3 years... but Cinema now for about 2 years and a bit... unfortunately it is still a hobby, trying to do some in my job and use 3D for projects, but we're short of time...

you know its funny when I first started classes here studying classsical animation I thouhgt that 3D would be the faster of the two, and yes I guess in someways it is but seriously, I can pop a quick sketch of a 360 pan of an interior with decent perspective before I could do something as detailed in 3D no problem. But 3d is just so time consuming I find now it is much easier to draw it then model and render it.

Im 30 sorry i dont say much on the forums more of a lurker:eek:
been 3ding for nealy 2 years started with bryce then cararra :thumbsdow
finaly the happy world of cinema.
Im luckey i get to use it most days i do gfx for a living, only problem is i can never get the motivation to do my own progects when i get home.
mike.:D
Kai sculpting is something I always wanted to have a go at,but I find with that kind of thing that I forget to sculpt everything that juts out first and work your way back :) ......you mean sculpting with clay right?
My perspective skills are not what they used to be.Now I see most straight lines with a big bow in the middle {its a brain thing} and I cant draw symmetry anymore either it just gets all screwed up,but perspectives is something I need to spend some time on thats for sure :)
Mike hows it going bud :D .....dont just lurk, lurk and participate :D

Try Photoshop save for web Mike.I can usually get away with med compression and come in at around 46 - 47 k.A couple of times PS has told me I have a 48k image, only cg talk says...oh no you dont thats 52k....I hate that :annoyed: You can also if you have the time use an alpha in PS and load it in save for web and optimize that way as well, but ya 50k is a pain in the bum if you dont have web space :)
