Hi there again! :)
I couldn't finish any of the past challenges I joined and probably won't neither have the time to finish this one but I liked the theme and wanted to try it! :wavey:
I've tried to merge some kind of lion/gorilla/reptile with pads and armor and hope to start moving to 3D next monday. I forgot to add a human for scale comparison purposes althought I thought the beast could have a 'rider' over his shoulders to guide him while carring the burden on a pack on his lower back. I don't want to spend more time on the sketch so I'll probably be adding details on the way while modeling. Hope that gives an idea...
See you!
(If the image doesn´t appear below would mean I did something wrong attaching it) :p I used to upload them to a server and paste a link and still don't know for sure how to attach it directly to the post... Let's see if this works...

Mola la idea, aunque yo haría la cola más grande y larga (y esto no significa nada je je :D ). Me gusta mucho la cabeza de león con armadura. Cómo es de alto el bicho?

Uops!
Hola paisano! :) Gracias por tu post! Siempre se agradece leer alguna opinion. Sigo en english...
Yep! I agree about making a bigger and longer tail, that will maybe make it more balanced when crawling. I'll have it on mind once I start modelling it. About the size.. it's just between VERY BIG to EVEN BIGGER  hehehe It's meant to carry a human/rider over its houlders and a some burden on the back... Btw, I'll put a human reference on the next pic! Hope to start morking on it this evening! See u and thanks again! :)

I like the lines in your concept. Very angular and clean. Can't wait for the next ones!

Thanks Erilaz! :) I'm not longer working on the sketches so I'll probably modify the character design directly in 3D :wip: . A little update here. Crits & comments are welcome!

Very nice sketch, good concept for your beast....
The modelling is also impressive, great start, I really like the face

Hi there! :)
Thanks Hmura! Glad you like it. I've been working on the helmet and head garments of the creature so maybe it will be a bit hidden on the final model. I'm also adding some more muscle definition on the arms and body but as it happens with the face I'm afraid that most of them will be covered with the armor at the end. Anyway, not too much new by now, just a very small animated GIF I did just messing with Image Ready. I had never did this before and it was easier than I thought. I'll try to post some wireframes later with the updates I've said. C u! :wavey:

Again here... :)
Just a fast post with a wired screengrab of my model so far. I wanted to see how the armor could fit on the head before moving to the lower torso. For the rear legs I'm thinking in some kind of bird claws. I haven't decided it yet so left it unfinished in the concept. Hope to start working in them tonight.

Thanks for the encourage IC4- and AJ_23 !
That really helps cause sometimes you're not sure your doing ok if anyone agrees or complains. I haven't done too much on the lower torso yet but here a post a default scanline render I did yesterday night just testing with some lights. Have a nice weekend a nd "see you" next monday!

Geeze, how the heck have I been missing this one all of this time??

I like this piece. So far the modeling looks fantastic, but I haven't looked at it enough to get any constructive crits together yet. One thing I'd mention is that your sketch looks very feline, yet your model looks like a bulldog. I think I like the model better anyway so that doesn't really matter :p
Do you have any designs for the burden it will carry?

Yup!
Thanks a lot for the nice comments! I wasn´t too sure about the helmet but will keep it as it is by now. Tonight I finally hope to start working on the legs :hmm: Let's see if i can post something new tomorrow.
Flarp: hehehe hope it get a bit more menacing than Tom & Jerry once finished :p Thanks!
ZrO-1: Hi mate! Glad you like it! I love you extra-mega-beetlee-bug! Tons of detail there. You have an amazing concept and model there. Btw, I'll be waiting for your constructive crit
Stipen: I sincerly envy your cartoon style! Always so original and fresh. Great designs and extreamly clean model. Superb as always.

I enjoy a lot seeing so many talented people entries. its hard to find the time to follow all that threads.

Yesterday after work I went to see "Ice Age", it stole me some time to work on the character but definetely was worth the time! I arrived at home late but I felt like to mess with polys so take advantage of that extra inspiration and gave a push to the BOB. First of all I worked on the arms adding more details on muscles and later start modeling the legs. I definitely don't like at all the mouth piece (don't know the word...) so I'll surely redone it before doing the beast 'hands' and feets. I also make the chin a bit bigger and will probably invert the teeth from the sketch and make them point down instead up. Come on drop me your comments and crit! They're always welcome. Here I post some images of what I have so far:

P.S: Zr0-1 I agree on is doggy look rather than feline  It came out that way while modeling, but I neither dislike it so will leave it as is  hehehe I tried to make some kind of lion/gorilla/reptile mixture but came out with this... :hmm:

And finally for today a last close up render. :wip: :wavey:
On friday I'm taking one week holyday in Dublin and will left the 'puppy' alone at home. Tomorrow I'll maybe post my last update before leaving and won't be back until July 29th. Take care of it! ;)

Ups... I just did some neck arrangements in Photoshop, I like it better this way. Tell me what you think! Thanks! :)

wow!! great idea!! I love the mix between these exotic animals!
I'm impatient to see the reptail-tail ( :D )
Don't forget post a human to see how much big it is!

I think you can start to think in the colors... maybe the brown (lion's color) is too much evident... what about black and white like a zebra?
The armour color it depends of the social state of it... so could be gold or dirty material

I wish you keep us updated! :wip:

Excellent Super-Duck you have there Pabbloz! :applause: hehehe Thanks for the comments! I agree about using less evident colours, will work on this at the end. I'm always forgeting the human for scale comparison so thanks for remind me on this! :) I like the idea of the social status armour, I take it!
Ok, some more screens of the BOB as I'm going with it now. I've noticed that related to the human it turns onto a MEGA ULTRA HUGE beast and not too sure of this... but anyway... :hmm:

Ops... remade the back thing and add the human...

I really like the neck when you stretched it in PS. I might even try stretching it a touch more. That helped bring out the lion aspect to the model in the profile. I really like the new modeling you have done. As I'm writing this I thought of one other suggestion: Gorrillas and lizards are both sort of barrel-chested. Maybe you might want to try expanding the ribs a bit more to give your BoB a bit of a barrel-chested look as well. It should fit with it's big bulging front legs.

Thanks for the comments Zr0-1! :)
I'm thinking on stretching the neck as in the PS pic and will also work on the barrel chest idea. I think it's really a good apreciation and will maybe fit better to the gorilla and lizard shape. I'll be on holydays in Dublin for 10 days since today so won't do anything until august. Is there any irish by here? I guess I'll be out of time for the challenge... (again) but will continue working on it and will try to post the progress althought in another diferent forum. My intention is to finish the body at all (chest, neck, hands an feet) and continue doing the armor and details once the anatomy is fully finished. Anyway, that won't be until a couple of weeks. I'll try to keep an eye on the challenge somehow to see how all that great entries end up. Meanwhile here I left a last side view render. C u soon :wavey:

Oooh! each post I like more this beast!... but I've not thought it was soooo big!! :D
Now... the humans looks like they were small... so when you do a scene you will have to add trees and a lot of references of the scale to indicates the big is the beast :D
Just a suggestion... maybe you can do a longer "chest"... in other words... separate a bit the back-legs from the front ones.

much better render!

That's a pity you stop the thread during two weeks or so... :annoyed: anyway... enjoy in Dublin!

looking good good good!
but, I don't like the red eyes.. the eyes are the passage to a characters soul, they need more attention!
that's just my opinion though.. red eyes has a tendance to look evil, might me what you're going for. but you can make eyes that's both evil and "alive" if you're cleaver ;)

keepin' an eye on you!
