View Full Version : Beast of burden character/contraption
zenzmurfy 07-05-2002, 04:40 AM :wip: My idea for a beast of burden is a large amphibious mammal used as transport to travel across a vast frozen tundra. I haven't fully explored the ideas for contraptions yet. I figure it can transport stuff across water too.

The boolean/stencil stuff didnt come out as good as I had hope. I'll probably do it the hard way with the stenciled stuff as a guide.

Thanks ZrO-1!
About the teeth I was thinking orca teeth, basicly rounded teeth but not flat like molars. kinda like as drawn here. :)
BTW I also have a 2d thread for BOB too

Here's a 3/4 rear view. I still have lots of ropes and sockets to attach around the contraption.

Just made the penguin char today. The black color patten is going along the metanurbs cage so its not where it ought to be. It'll get fixed when I apply a texture to it.

...nothing like a little reference to fix a bunch of defects.
like penguins probably have round instead of having pointed cone heads.
and the beak's longer.

Here's the latest image. I dunno if it is the final, but I kinda like it. :) I am not sure about how the final image is supposed to be, like whether it has to be shown a single shot or multiple shots showing off the model from more angles. I wonder if I have to set up a separate thread for the contraption?

I really really like this zenzmurfy!
So much character! And it all works well together!
Great!

Wow, that really has good atmosphere to it! I'd say a really bad pun about it being really cool, but you know I'm above such poor humour! :D
Excellent work zenzmurfy!

Thanks Drongo Stabbins! :) I really had fun with this character, but it's soooo simple looking compared to the incredible stuff I have seen by everyone here!
Thanks Erilaz! :) I hope to animate it eventually... probably as a caravan of these barges.

Hey this came out great! Really like the feel of it all, you kept that from the original designs well..dig the translucency in the backlit shot too.
You definitely have to carry on, I want to see the continuing adventures of the penguin dudes :)

I really like the contraption! Very nice design! The bob is cool, too, but not very detailed. I'd like to see more details around the eyes and the mouth, at least.
Funny to see penguins as the slave drivers, LOL!

Thanks DMcgrath!:bounce:
Yeah, I am kinda surprised that there weren't too more aquatic or artic entries this time.
Thanks Fetus23!:bounce:
I'll probably do more with the BOB & barge. Maybe an animation of a fleet of them coming ashore and beginning their journey across the tundra.
Thanks Hypercube!:bounce:
Yeah I am thinking I have got to make an animation where it features all the conceptual background stuff I made up for the land whale/penguin culture/technology.
Thanks Prasa! Glad you've enjoyed it!
Thanks Pearson!:bounce:
Yeah I had to concentrate on the contraption because the whale itself was mostly finished; aside from the absent texture maps, the whale is intentionally featureless. Perhaps I could add an occasional scar and moles on it. I have considered adding lightly studded gloves/mitts to the limbs.

Mike, it looks great, is that translucency, you did a great job lighting it, I would like to see foot prints and sleigh tracks in the snow though.
