lol i feel like im talking to myself here, anyways just got 3ds max 5 and wow what a great upgrade. Only got to check out the redone poly modeler, but it is great...

Here is what i have so far, it kind of has a gorilla body, its basically the shape the body will have minus the head...Ill try to get that picture in asap, Id love any comments!

Lukashi
07-06-2002, 02:46 AM
Well here is the model, its starting to show some muscles, feel free to leave some critiques

dosadi
07-06-2002, 02:53 AM
looking good so far  ... The muscles seem more like indentions right now then actual masses. I'm sure youll add more definition as you go though. Have you thought about a harness and what he'll be carrying yet?

Lukashi
07-06-2002, 03:10 AM
I have no idea what to make him carry yet...Ill get the scan of the picture up for sure tomorrow, maybe you guys could give me some inspiration, i dont really want to make him carrying a rock...Im thinking something like an artifact or something along those lines

Lukashi
07-07-2002, 01:38 AM
Started to refine the muscles a lil bit more...

otacon
07-07-2002, 02:47 AM
looks good....any idea for a face?

Lukashi
07-07-2002, 03:28 AM
Yep i think im gonna add some horns and some evil looking eyes, sharp teeth too :p

Lukashi
07-07-2002, 10:58 PM

Lukashi
07-09-2002, 03:19 AM

Lukashi
07-09-2002, 04:36 AM
Ok that last pic didnt make much sense, here is another on that is a bit more right...Leave some critriques plz

ZrO-1
07-09-2002, 05:37 AM
so far it looks really good. About the toes on his back feet: are you going to make them pointy with claws, or blunt and rounded? They look like they could go either way right now. I personally would pro'lly make them with claws to go with the horns on its head.

Lukashi
07-09-2002, 03:02 PM
yeah they are gonna be claws, just havent focused on them yet

Lukashi
07-10-2002, 02:51 AM
ok finally got that stetch scanned, the model doesnt match the stetch very well since i wasnt able to set it as a backround template, but now that i can i can really begin to fix it up and put it all togheter, ill have to really rebuild some parts to make it match up...

Lukashi
07-11-2002, 12:11 AM
 Its looking closer to the stetch, plz leave some feedback

otacon
07-11-2002, 03:12 AM
good. the forearms need more muscle definition.....and the fingers look like ballons right now.;)

Lukashi
07-12-2002, 07:33 PM
heres it a lil bit futher along...

Lukashi
07-13-2002, 04:38 AM
i decided i dont like the arms on my beast, so here is a prototype for the new arm, work is still in progress but tell me what u think plz!!!

Lukashi
07-13-2002, 04:39 AM
oops picture didnt show up

Lukashi
07-15-2002, 04:26 PM
hmm...

Lukashi
07-15-2002, 11:01 PM

ZrO-1
07-17-2002, 02:00 PM
Hey lukashi, sorry it's been so long since I last replied. I think cutting off the back legs was pro'lly a good idea. Do you know how you want to re-model them? I would recomend you design them based on a dog's leg. The last style looked more like bird/dino legs. I wnat to crit more, but I really really suck at anything that's even remotely like a person/primate (which your arms and back look to be) so I see the stuff, and I know it could use some refinements, but I don't know what to suggest to fix it... Sorry I can't be more helpful man...

Jay-Mo
07-17-2002, 02:05 PM
I think it would look good with a dog like leg or some less humanoid. Great start.

Lukashi
07-17-2002, 04:57 PM
thx for the ideas, now i just need to find some good pictures of dogs as a refenrence

Lukashi
07-22-2002, 12:01 AM
just finished up the feet, ...I was gonna do the dog thing but the bottom of the feet didnt match up, so i just came up with some random legs...tell me you guys think!:p

ZrO-1
07-22-2002, 01:14 AM
hmmm....
I think that the heel-toe piece needs to move up to where the ankle joint is.

Lukashi
07-22-2002, 02:19 AM
Did i fix it?? by the way i changed the horns...do u guys think the new horns are better or worse?

otacon
07-22-2002, 02:23 AM
yea much better. and the new feet look better too.

Lukashi
07-22-2002, 02:38 AM
thanks otacon, i see your like bebop eh?

Lukashi
07-22-2002, 05:08 AM

hehehe nice i have the whole season and movie downloaded on my comp, good stuff :))))

Lukashi
07-23-2002, 02:13 AM
a friend wanted to see how my beast was going, well heres a small update

otacon
07-23-2002, 02:48 AM
The fingers need some work. Keep it up.

Lukashi
07-23-2002, 04:36 AM
ok its 12:35 am and i think the modelling portion of my beast is pretty much done...Time the the contraption, i think ill make him pull a cart full of corpses or cofins not sure which, i wanna give him a "Bring out your dead feel" :) I hope thats not too grewsome, well time to start that fun stuff...Plz leave a critique especially either about the models state or the contraption...Well here it is...

erilaz
07-23-2002, 11:54 AM
Nice work! The fingers are still a little blocky though. Looks like he's got his hands caught in a metal press at some point.

Corpses seem to be fluctuating a lot on the various burdens for the challenge. How about something nice, like gifts for poor orphens, or a fairy floss machine? :D

Lukashi
07-23-2002, 01:32 PM
lol ok ill try to think of something more creative :annoyed: hehehehe

Lukashi
07-23-2002, 05:30 PM
just got done rigging it, i put it in a pose where it looks like its struggling to get thru a sandstorm or blizzard, btw any know any good tutorials for blizzards and storms, preferably for 3ds max, but it doesnt really mather either way

otacon
07-24-2002, 01:55 AM
Nice pose.

Lukashi
07-24-2002, 04:09 PM
ok this is where i plan to go with the model...the quality really really sux right now, but i am going to go for a sand storm enviroment...

Lukashi
07-25-2002, 01:38 AM
:annoyed: Hmm the sand storm thing isnt working out too well, if anyone has any suggestions for a better enviroment, im open to ideas...

phil
07-25-2002, 02:05 AM
meteor storm in hell!!!!

Flaming balls of err... flame streking down from the sky over a barren rocky volcanic land with lave strems and steam blasts.

ZrO-1
07-25-2002, 02:33 AM
Lukashi, are you doing this in actual geometry? or is it a particle effect?

If it's geometry, the way you could make it look like flying sand would be to animate it accross your scene, say in like 15 frames have it go all the way across. Then just make sure you pick like frame 10 to render and have motion blur on. that will make it look streaky.

If its a particle effect you might as well do it in PS since it's a 2D post effect in the first place.

 just my 2 cents.

Lukashi
07-25-2002, 02:34 AM
intresting...now what would he be workin on...

Lukashi
07-25-2002, 02:47 AM
true, it is actually geometry so ill try motion blur, thx for the input, i just hope my computer doesnt spaz out when rendering

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:34 AM
ok this is the style i decided to go with, he is going to be following a warrior thru a sand storm in a desert type area, ill add all sorts of supplies on his back including the warriors weapons...any comments would be nice :wip:

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:44 AM
tell me guys honestly, cute or scary ?? :scream:

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:47 AM
I think that his forearms look to much like a gorrilla. Make his fingers point out away from him, not towards him or make him form fists with them. Add more spikes specially another one on the head !!! And give him some color, preferably red. Give him some claws too.

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:48 AM
dammit TaiMaiShu im not makin diablo now leave me alone lol (TaiMaishu is a friend from school)

phil
07-26-2002, 03:49 AM
he just has to be drooling! one big sticky string about to drop to the ground. Like he's contemplating having his master for lunch.

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:50 AM
Make him shoot red lightning from his hands. And make him walk upright sometimes. his eyes should be yellow. BTW Diablo > j00

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:51 AM
har har har nice one lol, i bet those biped characters look real good when ur standed in the desert =p

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:52 AM
The ideal setting would be in Hell.

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:52 AM
im not makin diablo!!!!!! leave me alone!!!:insane:

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 03:54 AM
here he is from a different angle...

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:54 AM
Also make him command legions of demon hordes and undead soldiers agains't humanity.

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:56 AM
He must be stupid to leg a guy with a purple head be his master IMO.

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 03:58 AM
I looks like the harness connects to the guys rear end is that how its supposed to be ?

TaiMaiShu
07-26-2002, 04:01 AM
So all thats stoping the beast from mauling the guy with the purple head is some brown colored nylon strap ? I think you need a better way of controlling him.

Lukashi
07-26-2002, 04:02 AM
well here is how its connected, and he doesnt maul the guy because he isnt diablo

otacon
07-26-2002, 05:36 PM
He looks fine. Maybe elaborate more on the harness thing, or make him carry something...remember he has to be a beast of burden :D keep the updates coming.

Lukashi
07-27-2002, 02:10 AM
here is the kind of load ill put on him, the green ball is going to be a shield, the cylinder a sword and the rest is going ot be random gear, tell me what u think :)

otacon
07-27-2002, 02:51 AM
Looks fine.

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 01:32 AM
ok a little update no rope yet, what u guys think?

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 01:45 AM
a little little update, heres is the biped dudes sword

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 02:33 AM

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 04:24 AM
Oh yay how fun max corrupted my BoB file, so i lost all the work ive done today...bah!!! ill try to remake it as quick as possible:hmm:

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 05:13 AM

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 05:32 AM

Lukashi

ZrO-1
07-28-2002, 08:10 AM
Hey Lukashi, great work on all the gear. I like the sword & sheild idea, that's really cool. It all looks good so far.
Nice stuff

Crash
07-28-2002, 08:58 AM
I like it, but personnaly I would fix a couple of thing in the beast itself, for example the biceps, I think there's something wrong with them. The wrists areas also need a little tweaking. Work on that and it will be a beauty. Greetz. Check my monsta. :bounce:

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 01:32 PM
thx guys, crash i see what u mean about the wrists being a little off, but i dont get what u mean about the biceps, anyways, gonna tweak it a little and ill start to work on the lighting and enviroment...

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 05:31 PM
started workin on my sand storm very little luck, it just looks like a snow storm, ill skip that for now and just work on the texturing...

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 06:26 PM
a little texture update, tell me what u think...

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 06:27 PM
bah, quality seems to be suffering more and more, because of the 50k limit, how do u guys keep it clean?? :annoyed:

Lukashi
07-28-2002, 06:59 PM
started workin on a storm again, tell me what u guys think...prob needs some particles i think its lookin ok thought...only ok though ~_~

otacon
07-28-2002, 10:48 PM
The textures look good. There isnt much time left, so you should start modeling the guy.;)

ZrO-1
07-28-2002, 11:54 PM
Try adding in a strong enviromental fog with a streaky Solid Fractal texture to vary the 'thickness' of the fog in areas. Then just add some streaks in post for sand wizzing past the camera lens. (I got that idea from watching some cartoons that had desert sand-storm scenes in them)

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 03:25 AM
some cartoon aka cowboy bebop? : )

ZrO-1
07-29-2002, 03:38 AM
LOL yup! The scenes of the battle on Europa that had the skelletons in the sand. hehehe you know me too well :p

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 03:39 AM
my friend says the sword looks like its falling off, do u guys know what shes talkin about, i fear she maybe be a little :insane:

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 03:41 AM
lol yeah i love that scene...I donno why but next to bebop that evil samurai dude was my fav, he might even rival bebop...

erilaz
07-29-2002, 04:12 AM
my friend says the sword looks like its falling off, do u guys know what shes talkin about, i fear she maybe be a little

I think she may be right actually! It might be better if the sword's scabbard was resting on the bulk of the burden, rather than hanging out at the side. A little nudge would probably make it fall out! :D

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 04:54 AM
i see what ur sayin, i finally found out why she kept sayin it though, she thought the white part was the handle and the black part the sword, she didnt see the red part

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 05:12 AM
ok i added some sand and ill add some of those streaking dust clouds, hehehe i rewatched episode 14 of bebop to see what u where sayin

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 05:15 AM
oops heres the pic

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 04:54 PM
a little storm update...

ZrO-1
07-29-2002, 05:02 PM
The storm is coming along quite well. I like the variation you are starting to get into the density of the sandstorm now. My only suggestion would be to make it even more thick. Right now it looks like your characters are infront of the storm rather than in it. I would try and have a bit of 'fading' happening at the backfacing parts of the models.

Lukashi
07-29-2002, 05:08 PM
thx zro-1 yeah i did intentionally put the character in front of the storm in fear that he would lose a lot of the details i put in him, ill put him sorta in the storm i dont wanna lose him in it : )

I dont understand what u mean by fading effects, can u put that in other words? thx for the feedback

Lukashi
07-30-2002, 03:43 PM
here is an update (possibly the last one)

Lukashi
07-30-2002, 03:54 PM
a little bit more sand : )

Lukashi
07-30-2002, 10:09 PM
although i did have other stuff to do, i decided, screw it, i wanna finish this model! that means no bibep guy, makin a desert type person, its in very early stages, but hopefully he will be almost done by tonight:bounce:

Lukashi
07-30-2002, 10:40 PM
a little update, tell me what u guys think of him so far...

phil
07-31-2002, 12:38 AM
i like him, very cool. One q, where will his arms come out to hold the reins?

can we see him with the beast, can we, can we, please please please?

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 12:39 AM
yep rendering, unfortunatly the scene takes like 1 hour to render =p

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 02:00 AM
i had to turn off the weather effects for this render, ill put them back up on the final

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:14 AM
k heres another random render for fun, dude was editated a little bit

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:20 AM
hmm having my doubts about the fog, the character seems to be fading out...its making me sad, cause i like the crisp quality of my older posts, what u guys think, i really need some feedback here...

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:27 AM
see heres the unfogged one

erilaz
07-31-2002, 04:52 AM
The fog works well in my opinion... just looks a little uniform, that's all. Working well!

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:54 AM
what about the fog thats 4 pictures down from the top?

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:55 AM
of the page 7 lol

phil
07-31-2002, 05:02 AM
lookin kool Lukashi, I'm a bit worried about how the dude is holding the harness, any sudden moves from your beast and things could get messy :)

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 05:03 AM
yeah i havent modeled that yet, ill make tomorrow

phil
07-31-2002, 05:06 AM
sorry forgot to mention the fog, I think u r right, pg7 4 down is the best, nice and messy, which is good. Maybe there should b some other stuff blowing through too - bit corny but 'spinifex' or whatever - news paper maybe:) showing the headlines "man with clever di_ck steals bob from local zoo!"

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 05:08 AM
LoL good one =P k ill add more details

erilaz
07-31-2002, 05:14 AM
I am so confused! :hmm:

Yes, the fog 4 posts down from the other page works well. Could be a little more dusty though, get a real desert storm thing happening!

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 05:15 AM
hmm what i was saying was that im having doubts about the dust, makin my model lose detail...well i gonna render the dude in the desert tonight while i sleep, 2 hour render i think ~_~

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 02:51 PM
oki leaving my comp on payed off the render took 57 minutes here it is...

i play atari
07-31-2002, 04:44 PM
looks like Ifrit from FF. That little guy right there is going to get eaten, whether you think he will or not....he will.....because if he was harmless he'd look like an elephant.......

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 04:57 PM
the dude in the cape uses magic he is invincible!!!! lol

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 05:20 PM

I like the sandstorm. It makes it look a lot better.

ZrO-1
07-31-2002, 07:26 PM
Hey Lukashi, cool idea with the character. I wish I had thought to wrap my guy in a big cloak as well. It would be saving me all of this crazy weighting LOL :p
Seriously though, I like the desert guy. That pic of him getting eaten is hilarious. I agree about the sandstorm though. It needs to be broken up much more. I had an idea for that.
Have you thought about using transparent planes with the streaking sand patterns as transparency/color maps? I know mpas aren't allowed for the characters, but since you are using it for your enviroment it should be allowed. If you did use the maps, you could get rid of (or reduce very much) the enviroment fog and the sand 'particles'. You could use say 3 planes: one inbetween the camera and characters, one just behind the characters and one mid-way to the end of the ground plane. I think if you did the maps right it would look amazing.

Just my 2 cents.

Lukashi
07-31-2002, 07:29 PM
thx for the comments, hmm good idea i could use max's built in smoke map, ill give to a try, lol i cant believe i never thought of that : )

final render

erilaz
08-03-2002, 06:10 AM
I laughed for ages when I saw that beast eating the guy! It should be part of your final submission!!!

Really nice work. I think maybe you should lighten the dust just a little. You're losing some detail.

Great stuff. And I mean it about that eating pose! :D

Manicalavera15
08-03-2002, 08:12 AM

Thx guys- Zro-1 - I do think the storm looks better too, i used the technique you told me too, thanks for the tip : )))

Manicalavera15 - Lukeskywalker, hehehe, i think he looks more like diablo in human form :)

erilaz - Haha ok ill make like a double picture and put him being eaten in it, just need to rerender that scene

Lukashi
08-03-2002, 01:50 PM
