View Full Version : need help: ramp shader texturing

hi there,

although I'm pretty much proficient with Maya concerning animation and rigging etc. I never really used the Hypergraph or shading networks in previous team constellations.

During a freelance project I encountered a little problem: The overall look is toon, accomplished by a ramp shader.
I would like to blend a file texture (via alpha channel) with the ramp shader, to add little features like pimples or constant lines to the skin. How can I achieve this?

I guess 2 shaders need to be layered somehow to get the desired look?!
How would the shading network look like?

oops, sorry folks, here's the (really simple!) solution:

take your desired rampshader, take your alpha-channeled texturefile and throw them in a layered texture node, blend mode 'over'.
output the color into a surface shader and put that on your model.

that's it. shading for dummies... like me. Doh!
