Well, greetings to everyone. This is my first time submitting to the Challenge -- actually, this is my first post entirely; I've been lurking here for long enough, I figured it was time to get off my butt and submit something. I'm currently a sophomore in art school; I haven't taken any 3d animation classes yet but that's my majour, and I'm scheduled to take my first 3d class this winter. All of my work at this point in my life is purely a learning experience, so please, tear my pieces apart with critiques -- that's what I need! =) My 3d work is done entirely in 3dsmax 4.2, but my school only really teaches Maya, so I'm hoping to learn that some day too =)

Anywho, on to the challenge.

I was doing some sketches, and I scanned this one in to colour it with my mouse in Photoshop. I suppose I'll design the thing he's carrying later. Just a bit about this creature: he's about 10 metres tall, and very strong. In the final piece he'll hunch over on his arms more in a primate-style posture. He's probably going to have bumpy skin, sort of like an alligator, but that might change (if I can figure out a way to do fur in max, I'd like to change his design some). His harness is pretty simple, just a leather vest of sorts (this might change); it's attached to some poles that carry whatever he's required to haul -- in this case, he's going to be carrying a transport of sorts (I'm not sure what that's going to look like yet). He's a military beast, but since he's a load bearer, his tail was cut when he was an infant -- this stunts his agression dramatically, and also keeps the tail from dislodging the harness poles. He carries the banner of his owner on his back, as well as a crystal, which is (probably going to be) used to keep the thing he's hauling afloat. Since this is a WIP, these details will almost definately change. But this is what I've got so far.

I'll keep sending updates, but because I'm on 56k access here at home, it's probably going to be pretty infrequent (once every few days). Let me know what you think!

Cheers,
-Aaron.

For some reason that didn't attach ... let's see if this works.

Oops. Well, another project just fell into my lap, which I hadn't been expecting until August. Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately) this means I'm out of the game for this month. My new project is a short involving a turtle, a butterfly, and a jetpack ... this should be fun =) Hopefully I'll be able to post it to the WIP critique section. Later all,

-Aaron.
