Whats up guys, Im having this problem with a character Im currently making for a mod called The Longest Snow Day. I got my character like 90% weighted and Im starting on his animations. Im trying to keep all the animations in one file but Im having this weird problem with the mesh.

I have one idle animation done and Im on my second. However when I try to rotate his limbs into the positions I would like them to be for the second idle animation, something happens to the first idle animation. All the bones remain in place like they should but I get this weird twitch on the surface of the mesh. It’s like where the shoulder is. The mesh like expands upward for about two frames then goes back into place. I checked the track view to see if it was being cause by a bones animation curve but I don’t see anything. I even checked to see if they’re is some sort of animation on the physiques modifier but there was nothing.

This is the same problem I was running into while I was weighting the character. I would set animation on his torso and arms and head ect. And all of the sudden while scrubbing through to check my weights I would see his head like expand for a frame or two and then go back to normal. Have you ran across this in the past and overcame it? To see a what Im talking about with his head check out http://www.bryansilva.com/movies/rig_test.avi I linked a camera to his head so you can see it expanding.

Any help would be great, cause we are trying to get a working demo of the mod up and running by GDC (March 22nd)

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Do you see the 'expansion' when you scrub to those frames, or just on playback? I've had this happen several times where mesh jiiters were evident ONLY when playing the animation, but upon examining the single frame, there indeed was no error.

Now, if you DO have the problem, single frame or not, one suggestion I can offer is assigning all of those verts as RIGID and making sure that they are weighted ONLY to the head (as you wouldn't need the neck to influence the head verts ). If this works, do the same to the other problem areas. Otherwise, I have no answer, as I've never had to correct this kind of problem.

Cheers

Well i've had this problem as well.It seems to only be on 1 frame. The only solution I could get is to change the animation of his torso. It has something to do with animating the spine. If you play around with the rotation you will see the twitch stop. but alas the animation suffers. its a stinkin bug. Sadly I couold never find a true fix. hope that kinda helps.
