View Full Version : Beast of Burden - Character - Iguiniz.X.
Iguiniz.X. 07-05-2002, 12:35 AM Wow this is my 3th challenge and my 300th post, coinsidence?
Here is a quick consept, I was seeing all big bullies and heavy footed beasts. so I thought why not make something else, something like a Spider. It still is in consept so maybe I'll chance the body of it, but the long legs stay.
Personaly I don't like spiders but in some wat they fasinate me. how sutch thin animals and also the small ones can be so straong ans especially their way of walking.
Well I think this one has a armor of hard skin like rino's have, or maybe like a turtle. but no metals just biolgical.
Should he carry the load in his own pansered body at the back
vary it or drag it? Well I hope the voting things work. Never done it before

the sketch looks cool... i'll definitly keep an eye on this thread :D
get modelling now you lazy bastard!
:wip:
(maybe i'll put up some shit for this contest as well, keep an eye out :D )

I think he should carry the burden on his back AND underneath him. Weigh that sucker down!

great idea...I like the idea of the guy riding it, and it's carrying that box thing suspended by cables under him...can't wait to see more:thumbsup:

Nice idea Iguiniz. The sketch looks pretty cool. One good thing about using a spider is it makes it's own cables for tying stuff down ;)

Nice concept, original, fun, and interesting. I think no wagon, because the spider is not built for that kind of pulling or dragging. I think a little of both of the other choices.........some cargo or objects on the back, more like everyday type needs, and for the below the body area some larger type packs or cargo bundles held with harness type apparatus.............Looking forward to this one quite a bit, very interesting............. :)

The Time Serpent: He thanks man. I surly check it out theat book you mentioned.
-OZ-:  Thanks, well I'm glad you like it.
O I got to eat reply more later and maybe a drawing
 Thanks for the coments

AARG asjgasug eg h I can't stand this now I've to type it all again for the 2nd time. I really am getting so annoid by explorer.
First I get an error while I was typing the last words now I post and I get the message that I've to much smilies so I go back and my text isn't there anymore. Damn this program. Aaarg!( pulling my hair out of my head)
I'll do it in 2 post so I've done it before this happends again....And no smilis this time.....
K here I go again:annoyed:
three: Ofcourse I remember you. I've seen Donnie darko last week with a friend and I really liked the movie. It only left me with 3 ending theories. In the the movie Sexy beast there is also a bunny as some sort of consiosness

07-05-2002, 08:25 PM
cool :D donnie darko is one of my absolute favourites. i really like jet li's The One as well... cool effects
ah well, i could go on and on about movies i love... by the way, if you haven't seen four rooms yet, do! yes, you'd better watch that film as well. :wip:
hey, by the way, i just entered the contest... look me up :)
don't have an adress to the thread. tell me what you think.
take care, and you'd better show me some modelling right now!

I don't know what happend but my dad's monitor just went blank so I did the last post blind, it is really a wonder I could find the post button blind:surprised
It just aint my luck day.
Well I continue:
erilaz : I'll I'll
Bezerker75: I had also an other Idea about how the guy/driver could ride the spider. Maye I can make a sort of basket made by the spiders web. Or do you think sitting on his head is better?
MrMark: He Thanks man, I've read that you are ill. To bad, But see the bright side. Now you have all the time to work on the challenge.:) Were was your last threath you talked about. In the WIP or finished art forum?
ZrO-1: WHy couldn't I have thought of that, Ofcourse the spider makes his own cables and with those he also pacs his food.
Genius man,
stereo : Thanks man, I really thought your past challenge was orriginal, to bad you lost the file. Did you got the programm which I told you about?
Virtuoso : I think you are right about that spiders aren't build to drag. But then i got a prob I don't really understand what haul is is hauling also carrying the cargo on his cables under him ( not draging) By the way what is harness type apparatus?
Virtuoso
07-05-2002, 11:17 PM
Iguiniz.X......................
Harness type apparatus means: Harnas type apparaat
or Toestel.................
Haul means..........Wegvoeren
What I meant was that your creation could carry things on it's back as well as below it's body.
Anyways I love your concept and will be looking for more of it soon. Very nice start. :)
toxichimp
07-05-2002, 11:23 PM
Cool, we've got a rather similiar concept :D Both spider-like.
As for the concept, I love the idea of the storage rooms. Also considerd having it carry her kiddies instead of cargo? Would rock to have tons of spheres hanging from her belly, crawling with little spiders.
Anyway, can't wait to see the first steps in 3d
Bezerker75
07-05-2002, 11:27 PM
hey maybe you could have one guy on top sort of the "lookout guy" and a guy suspended in a basket underneath the spider with a harness going up to the spiders head" he is the driver so to speak...that could be really cool... just another option for you!
three
07-05-2002, 11:37 PM
brat? i don't know, but i don't think i'm young enough to fit into that category
about that decision you had to make, how about you go out and chat a bit with your friends, take a smoke and shoot some pool, then, when you feel like you can't stand their company any more, go home and work on your contribution to the challenge :)
I'm trying to fix "it's" knees right now actually, the thing is, i don't really know what i was inspired by, it was just one of those images that pops right into your brain :) still, it's knees are still all to tiny, and i'll see what i can do about it, trying not to mess up the picture in my mind :D maybe some sort of caps for the knees, like the "shoes" on it's feet.
i'm thinking about hanging some sort of contraption from each tusk. maybe some sort of chair for humans/other peeps to ride in. and behind him maybe dragging some huge farming equipment. we'll see.
by the way, do you know if we're supposed to model some sort of environment, or just the creature?
take care, still anxious to see what you come up with.

Virtuoso : Com on you must be kidding, Dutch to. I wase quite surprised reading your reply in Dutch!!!:surprised
Ever checked 3dHype. If not get your ass over there. and read it below my post.
toxichimp: Maybe I can make the little spiders the worker who keep the cables intact. Some sort of cabin crew.
I'll check your threath
Bezerker75: I think I get an archer on top. I just love the bows and arrows. Well first the spider then the rest.
three : na you won't fit in that catagory.:p
Well I was so long on the CPU that I lost control of time so I thought why go out it is already to late.
I'll be watching you progress and I really think you should check our the anatomy of cows.
I moddled some but It is really ugly and I don't have a good idea of he spiders body besides I got all the time weard errors. better start over tomorrow and first make some scetches. so I won't post what I've moddled tonight.
Thanks for teh feedback:wavey:

I must day that I still don't got the hang of it and I switched over to editable poly so I could ude mesh tools <<<< absolutly great.
But it still a bit trying out.
Virtuoso: so were are you from and how did you get to know the Dutch/belgium language? Then we van know if you van get to 3DHype but for more you hae to ask 3DDY he is the founder of it.
-OZ- Here it comes.
I only got a question wen I made half of the spider and then mirrored an instance It looked ok but then I used mesh smooth the I get my moddel split in two.
How is this mirroring approached? So mesh smooth won't bereak it up.

:D thanks man, wouldn't like being called a brat all the time ;) by the way, i've been thinking about the bull/cow anatomy stuff, and will probably work myself through something new. I'm beginning to sketch some new stuff up right now, and hopefully i will come out with something a bit more... solid... cool. this one, in my opinion, is all to long :D streched, you know.
and i see you're coming along nicely yourself. love the start of this huge spider. i really love spiders, so this one is appeling to me.

Iguiniz, this is by far some of the best modeling I've seen you do for a challenge piece. Each entry you get better and better. I really like the stuff you've done for the BoB so far.
Mr. Nice Guy
07-07-2002, 09:41 PM
everytime I see your work it will come better. Your modeling skill comes better. I want that there was a site like this when I started 6 years ago.
I really follow your progress in 3D. Maybe you will be intessing for me in the future.
I also take a look at your website. Maybe you give it an update with your with work which you have done the lost time.
I will tracking you :wavey:

MAN I JUST GOT BACK FROM A CONSERT :drumrock: AND IN NEVER HAD EXCPECTED TO SEE THIS IN MY CHALLENGE.
 Man this really is overwelming and this sure will keep me going and even try harder to get the best out of this challenge.
 Yust great really great:cool:
I made the pics in my previous posts bigger so I hope you can see more now. I did somethin wrong with chancing the side vieuw so here it comes again and also larger.
To tell the truth I wasn't so sure about my spider, I was a bit unsure abouth the design. I think it is because they actually gave me the creeps so I never studied them from close. Now I got some reference images and I really don't like watching them but now I got used to it I think I can improve the details and anathomy. ( the slimy insects and especially their not expresing faces give me the :D

G: Thanks man I really like it that you like my spider.
Yes I'll let the cables come out of his natural oragans , but I got no idea on which way I let them be attached to the spider.
Got any idea's ( also other people ideas are welcome )
Derwolpertinger, -OZ-: Thanks thanks thanks, I think he does look scary, I only wonder how I can give him expresion.
Well a expresion can be anything, it can be an expresion if he looks as insects do, Emotionless and as cold as a serial killer,, doesn't it?
Zr0-1: I must say that just before I got to model this I got the excelent tip from equinoxx ( thanks man ) that meshtools only work in editable poly, >MESH< tool don't work in ediatable >MESH< weard :surprised> or I'm just stupid<<. I finally found out how they worked and now I feel more free in modeling, I still don't have the touch I think, but it will come with practice.
Mr. Nice Guy: I'm improving, don't I.
Sangotten, Equinoxx Phobia, Leigh, -OZ-, 3DDY and I'm sure forgot to mention some people who have helped me a lot and I think I owe it to them.
And ofcourse all the great feedback helps me a lot, it get you excited again. :applause:
To be honesest abouth my webside I made it in the 4th grade of highschool and I never touched it again. Besides that I lost the Password to my geocities account. at 3DHYE i got a profile but the server is a bit unstable at the moment. I'm planning to make a new Homepage this hollidays but I suck at it and I know nothing abouth the programms so I think I make a really simple one and then add my stuff I made by year.
By the way I check your site to and you also might wanna update your portofolio.
Maybe you will be intessing for me in the future.
I might be interesed in the future, but could you be a bit more spesific? maybe you can PM me abouth it in Dutch cos that way I understand it better I think.
Mr. Nice Guy
07-07-2002, 11:07 PM
Haha, I will tell the rest in dutch.
Next time I will go on English, so every body can read it.
Oh yeah, you are a lucky bastard that you have a long summer holiday. (Aaargh, I don't have that anymore, that is the thing I miss as a student)
Iguiniz.X.
07-08-2002, 12:36 AM
that was a fast reply.
Wen I see you writing Dutch I also get the feeling to write it back in Dutch. But I shall do it in English.
I study ( bouwkunde ) I think it is called in english Civil Engenering. But The study doesn't really fit in what I want, it is so much theorie and little design and creativity and if there is it sucks.
So I'm thinkin in geting my Propedeuse ( A paper which you get for finishing the first year) en then go to TU at Delft studying Architecture. And it is always handy to have a university grade. It is a lot handier then a HBO one.
Then I also like 3D stuff so I got in mind that I wouldn't mind working for a while in the 3D bussness when I'm finished with my study (ies)
When I start with something I like, it is easier and more fun to try and make the best of it. And then I think a other drive is that people watch your work adn crit, I like good crit and it may be hard simetimes but it keeps your feet on the ground.
Thanks for he explenation in Dutch
and the compliment
P.S
School hollidays rock:buttrock:

iC4-:Cool everybody gets the willies of spiders and people like mine,
that's
here I have him on his feet,
Did you notice that the first ( front ) 2 legs are tinner then the rest?
well if you see the difference tell me what you think is better I can't geta idea, So the tinner ones ( front legs ) or the ticker ones ( 6 rear legs )

07-08-2002, 02:42 PM
Great work, what kind of load is it going to carry?
Iguiniz.X.
07-09-2002, 02:26 PM
riki: I got no idea on which load he will carry, the only I know is that he wil use is own oranic cables but I have no Iea how it will be attached to himself. I was tninking of making a ball that lays on his back cos with hanging I got no realll handy wy of doing it.
Ideas are always welcome about this.
Maybe I also have to do some reseurch on how sppiders pack the flies in their webs.

WOW:eek: this challenge sure got a lot of people working while I was on hollidays, incredible almost 300 peeps have joined it.
Well I already got back from hollidays some days ago so I thougth why not show a update
Here is what I planed to do.
the spiders puls himslef up with his own cable and under him he has a net in which he carries the load/luggache. abouth the rider I still don't have a specific place for him but I thing still on the spiders back even if this is a bit hard in this pose. As you see I photoshoped it so you can see were I'm going.
I hope you like it and i hope i can finish it, it is that I have to look for a holiday job. pay my vacation:D :annoyed: well that is life, he

There's one obvious thing that struck my eye: When spiders move up and down their webs they are face down, because their web comes from the appendages at the rear. I think it would make more sense to make the spider go up and down with it's head pointing down, and then carry the load with the front legs.
Nice model, btw.
L.

He MrMark, I'm not sure but lets hope the best. Got a bit pain in my bi sep muscle:hmm: so I try to aviod the Pc as much as if neccesary.
But I'll finish it. If not in the challenge then in a other time.
Lestat:
Well I guess you are right that the spider faces down when going down but I aint sure if it is the same when they go up.
to go up they must have a previous made web and then as far as I know they only can walk in 1 way so I asume they also clime bith face up. By the way their front legs are also used as search tentakles. so this also would indicate that the go up with face up.
Well if you are really sure plz fill me in some more.
cos wehn they go down they make their web in the mean time but bulling himself up backwards and some sort of digesting their web back in theri body doesn't make a lot of sence in my mind but yea that is my mind. And thanks:cool:

I feel bad in not finishing my challenge.
But I will finish it and when I have a update which is good enough to show I'll make a threath at the WIP forum and I'll post a link in my threat.
Just for the people who are intrested.
It is a sin.....im curious about ur final.....so kmon finish it anyway!:wavey:
