Sorry guys! I forgot to tell you what that thing is! LOL oops.. It is a rabbit! Michel Gagné did the concept from a friendly competition of Insanely Twisted Rabbits.... Here is the link to that site!

Michel Gagné (http://www.gagneint.com)

Trilabite - Thanks!!! I'll post a wireframe for ya! I'm going to BCIT. small world eh? :0)

S E D A H - I'm glad you like it!! I am not going to take this project much further as I am focusing on modeling and I know I'll get off track if i throw a rig in this guy and make him run about. I want to see where I can take my modeling this year and I need to focus on that in particular, thanks for asking though! :scream: Any critiques on the model would help as I will work more on that!!!

digones - Evil Mice! HA!!! Kinda looks like that doesn't it! Check out the link above for other "Insanely Twisted Rabbits" by Michel Gagné. That is were I got the idea! :applause:

Oh and here is a wireframe! :0)

That rocks..love the severity and exaggeration..fabulous. :buttrock:

Would be great to see it animated with that freaky structure.

Something like that would be cool to see in the challenge, too..

can i give you a suggestion if you wouldn't mind?
i saw that for making the wire shot you scale a copy of mesh &
used a wire shader, i suggest you to use PUSH modifier insted of
scale it... load push over the 2nd mesh & raise the parameter a little
then apply the wire shader to the copied/pushed mesh.

James Prevette
07-05-2002, 02:07 AM
ila_solomon - The wire looks a little bit off because I used the subdivision cage over the rendered character, that is why it loos like it doesn't fit. :0) If you are itching for a different wireframe shot let me know and I'll post away!!! :) Cheers

hypercube - You think it rocks!! WHUHOO!! :0) Made my day. I might animate that thing someday... It would be a lot of fun! Right now though I'm just modeling like a "banche" :0)

S E D A H - Thanks for the critique! I kind of see what you mean, it is very subtle but still a major part of it. The lower part of the mouth has a bit more lip... of maybe I should say that the mouth dips in more.... I'll post an example of the fix. Cheers Eh

great monster-rabbit :applause:

coz those ears is the only rabbit-part i can detect
(besides proportions) you could increase their rabbitness a bit

they are a bit too symmetrical for my taste & perhaps a little byte too short

how about some muscles-bumps on legs & arms? or some geometry-tweakin to support those?
do you plan to texture?

is it goin to be a no-hair-rabbit? quite rare around here (;

would love to see him/her swallow something big
& ponder what would happen (;

your model really rocks

Thanks for all your comments!!! I'll address you all!!

Sevarf2 – Thanks a lot, I’ll post a front for you! I think I did a pretty good job of the proportions considering I only had one concept drawing and that was from the side. As for the texturing I think that will be later on this year as I am working on a modeling schedule right now. I can’t wait to start next week’s character! :scream:

http://www.procnc.com/designessence/front.jpg

Bradf0rd010 – I hate you too!!! Wait a sec… no I don’t :0) I am going to be doing another Twisted Rabbit next week. It is going to be good.

leprinoxyz – Thanks a lot! :0) I am going to be texturing later, I just wana model!!!!! ALL DAY!!! YAY!! :0) Whoa calm down James. Heh.

Totitch – One a week, that’s the plan! I have been able to do it for the last few weeks so I’m going to keep on cranking them out.

eric P – Thanks!

icky - “Wow! I can just imagine that thing eating up all the cute little bunnies in the fields!”
It is a bunny…. You’re not suggesting that it eats its own kind! OMG!!! AHHH!! I’m scared :0) J/K

no0ne – Thanks a lot for your critique! I would love to try all the things you mention but the purpose of this model was to match the sketch. If you see anything off from the sketch let me know. :0) This model was created from that one sketch and the proportion were work out from me drawing and using a lot of imagination.

fellah – Don’t get me started on the teeth! Oh my… I started modeling the teeth not from the sketch and realized I had to buck up and do them as they are. Quite a challenge but I loved every minute of it. I am constantly searching for a challenge! ;) I love the sketch.. Check out his page… top of my thread. :0)

stipen – Five Stars!!! Thank you sir. :0)

NANONEEN – I think I can pull off a character a week… this model was only three days out of this week… I am very busy this week so I won’t be texturing. For the most part I am only modeling for the rest of the year. I am trying to hone my modeling skill and maybe get a job! I have though about many different ways I could animate this in the future as for now I’m concentrating on modeling.

RobinOberg – What you see this bunny biting people? I thought that this guy would be a fine family pet……… heh. :0) Thanks for your comment.

S E D A H – Thanks for you critiques.. It was very helpful and intuitive. I will texture him eventually but not in the near future. Thanks again.

Pachy Thanks, that’s what I was trying for!

Ivanimal – Thank you very much! :0) “and that's all”

Lesen* – Rig it… well lets see.. First I’ll reference to nature; what animal has legs like that? MMmmm… There are frogs to start, the obvious animal that has short front legs… There is also the Manx Cat. The Manx's condition is a genetic deformity that is caused by a mutant dominant gene that distorts the entire spine. It causes the backbone to be shorter and have fewer vertebrae. This in turn causes the animal to have shorter front legs, and longer hind legs. The physical deformities cause the cat to hop along like a rabbit.. well that is kinda what I was trying to model!!! YAY .. So now I know somewhat of what the rig would look like and how it would move… as for the actual rig.. It will be a challenge. I look forward to it.

BrainFaucet – Cheers! :scream:

Keep it coming guys!!!

:applause: YAY! :applause:

every so often something comes along that's REALLY cool.
That model is on. I mean you managed to carry the essence and proportions of the sketch perfectly. No crits from me.

I like the idea of 1 model/week. That really forces you to manage your time. Very nice idea.

Maybe I'll do that too when I get the time.

sherban

spoke too soon....

I do have a crit. From the front he looks all wrong. We can't see his eyes(which should be facing foreward). And his brows look like a loose flap.

It should look something like this:

good luck

wlau – Thanks! There is a wireframe on the first page of this thread.

toce – Tankya, m8!

Barracuda – Why thank u!

breaver – Yes it is a funny looking mouse for a rabbit :0) Thanks, I’m trying!! Cheers

Rob3D31 – Someone actually saw my bear!! LoL I like that guy but it isn’t the most amazing model I agree. Thanks for your inspiration for my future modeling!

Sherban – Thanks for your critique! I think that the eyes could use some work yet I think that the eyes are close to what they should be. I know that in traditional animation the eyes can be drawn to face the camera even though they don’t keep their volume. I think that the eyes could be brought out with a brighter color and some modeling tweaks but I think the eyes should face outward like rabbits… Don’t get me wrong I think they need to go more forward but not too extreme. Thanks for your ideas! It helps! Cheers.

bentllama – Thank You. It means a lot coming from someone with your portfolio… I made sure that Michel knew and saw my work before posting here. He liked it a lot and put it on his website. It was very encouraging as I am working very hard.

chrisstian01 – Thanks a lot. I’ll get back to you on some tips!

kydjester – Thanks to Michel Gagné for the concept and as for the modeling… THANKS!!

=kz= – I can’t wait until tomorrow morning!! I start my new model. The rabbit was done in three days and I posted him right away cause I wanted to take this weekend off! :0) I am still in school…. Not VFS or CDIS… I’m at BCIT… Not as well know for animation/modeling as those schools but I work EXTREMELY hard… I want to make it in the industry and I hope I am on the right track…

Very nice job.

About the eyes... I am usually subjective about these things because it always depends on how the model will be used.

I think that the eyes on the sides are better but should be visible with a frontal shot like the one you posted; in that case I would takle that with a morph target and raise the eyebrows more, that way you have more definition of the eyes and you would be able to see the eye ball better.

James Prevette
07-09-2002, 05:52 PM
Interesting idea! Take a process used in traditional and apply it to cg. Eyes are sometimes drawn to face the camera so why not morph/blendshape/shape animate them to do the same... hmm might look weird but it is worth a try. Cheers

I am not at my best reply condition but lets see.

First, its cool. But as there has been a fair amount of praise I try to give some critique.

Some details like the rear leg have too "tight" forms - almost like creases.

Frontal image reveals that it istoo heavily based on the concept sketch in sense that the view from other direction looses the interresting tension and form. The jaw should have more detail to it.

Also even if you are not going to animate it you should model it so that it _can_ be animated. My main critique here is to the mouth. The amount of geometry you have around the mouth is not enough for creating other expressions. You should have room (more edges) to be able to stretch the lips for "ooohh" and other facials (if this was for real project). Simple posed morphed expressions are already good way to tell you know what you are doing even without doing actual animation. You can still show that your model is up to it.

Now the nostril is almost part of lip so there is no way you could stretch it radically.

Obviously how relevant this critique is, is up to your needs. Just for future. The modeler anyways usually does the morph targets and anyway the model has to have potential for it.
