View Full Version : Beast Of Burden - Character - Pancreas
07-05-2002, 12:01 AM
Hi, iīll try to keep regular updates and avoid leaving everything for the last day. Ha ha, i canīt believe myself. :p
Iīd prefer open theme challenges, but i donīt want to get out of the party, so this is what i īve got so far.
After six a3 of sketches, this is my idea. A four legged creature, with a reindeer-yak head. Iīve tried to design a cool and original set of legs, so i went for a mantis type. Oh ho, then i realized they where very similar to those of a cg creature from a science fiction film called attack of the drones or something like that. I hope nobody had seen it. :surprised Well, everything is already invented...
Iīm thinking about the harness and trinkets stuff. I want to make different seats, for a crew of 4 or 5 riders, like a b17 flying fortress kind, one on the neck, another on the haunches, hanging from the belly, on the back, etc. with cannon turrets and so on. Iīll draw them tomorrow.
C&C (command and conquer?) very appreciated. Critics are welcolme. Poems and insults are optional.

U SUCK!!! :)
O SUCKIEST OF ALL SUCKS.... :)
anyway the sketch is awesome... im not sure if like those legs but overall its a really cool concept:thumbsup:

I think the front legs are really cool. I reckon the back legs would look a bit better a bit shorter maybe. Maybe with the knees inverted.
But apart from that look like a cool character.

nice sketch and good BoB idea. I think it should look pretty awesome.
It'll make a great model....

I can't wait to see it animated!!! (4)

Really diggin the scale and the height. Make some good use of the space below is belly, just like a zeppelin or something.
07-05-2002, 02:10 PM
veeery cool concept! it's pretty different from the others!:D
07-05-2002, 04:46 PM
nice one, the best part is the face IMO.
I had a hard time to figure out "what was what" though, but I see great possibilities in this entry! and as I said that face is marvelous, keep it up

remember me a bit those beasts in Dark crystal... cool start!
07-06-2002, 07:24 PM
Another concept sketch.
On the left thereīs the canon site wich will be hanging from the chest. The right drawing is the main bridge, on the haunches looking backwards. There the course is setted and corrected.
The beast hauls two huge saddlebags for supplies, water and junk.
The shepherd warriors wear thick robes and hoods wich protect them of the two suns of Desertia. The cane is to control and lead the beast. It discharges small electrical spells that stimulate the bobīs brain and make it to turn left/right, stop, go forward/backward, seat, catch a frisbee...
Thanks very much for your comments guys. Phyle, i drew the shorter back legs version, and it looked too "biped" to me, i like all legs of the same height, as a deer, more "cuadruped".
Nanoneen, you can wait seated :p animation is too much for me.
Thanks, Sir Pascal Blanché, oh that movie brigs to me such good memories. Labyrinth was another great film too.
Fellah, iīm glad you like the face, now i must make it express one of the emotions from the rules.
I hope next update will be 3D :D

Killer concept..does make me think of the striders, but totally different. The armament and other designs are awesome too. Can't wait to see this in 3D.

Very nice and detailed sketches! :applause:
I personally love the chest hanging tower and the rear warrior idea. They fit pretty well and makes the beast look like a moving fortress. Come on with that 3D!
Beautiful concepts here - Leonardo da Vinci sketch quality!!!:buttrock:

Thanks for your comments! This is the first 3D update. Iīve tried to show shaded/wireframe at the same time, a bit confuse.
Iīve used mooseīs photos as reference, iīm working on the teeth now. Any suggestions for the hair? I know i canīt cover all the bob with hair, but iīd like to make the long tufts of the dewlap, neck, anckles, etc.
07-09-2002, 11:22 PM

A Moose! Goddamn that's a good idea!

Wow! thanks for your replies! They make me happy and powerful!
This is for AJ_23, haha, now you owe me a petition for your beast.. be frightened.. bwhahahahaha tjo tjo. :D
Actually, heīs not braying but singing "Ridinī the Range".
Sticky Blue, iīm using 3D Max 4.0, default scanline render.
Please iīd like to hear your comments n critics about the turfs of the dewlap. I donīt like them too much, but itīs the only way i thought to make the hair without my lovely shag hair plugin.
07-27-2002, 12:22 PM
The front legs. C&c please.
07-27-2002, 12:27 PM
Very nice start, I'm waiting for the continuation :applause:
07-27-2002, 12:28 PM
Originality here. So I like it.
Be sure that his mouth is able to reach the surface. For obvious eating and drinking reasons :D
I was questioning the creatures mobility when I saw those long front legs. But I think it' will be ok.
Oh and the head has a nice character about it
Keep it up!
07-28-2002, 02:20 PM
Hereīs the bobīs complete body, i have to detail a little more those back legs, and then iīll start with the harness and burden stuff.
Joril, youīve got the point with the head reaching the ground stuff. I think that this beast should eat the high bush/trees of Dessertia wich leaves have got the water he needs. Itīs some kind of giraffe but from upwards, i canīt explain better.

That's looking great Pancreas. I love it. That's a really wild looking BoB. Great stuff!
i dont like the photoshoping but your beats are great ,on the last image we not see clearly the detail so ...
some more detail on the legs ,not just the back one maybe a little bit more on the front .
beautifull modelling ,keep it up man !!!:bounce:
I love the front legs, head and body, but the back legs look rushed to me... they should be more like the front legs with the obvious rear leg hip joint at the top...
Cool stuff here! Very original design....i like it very much!MOre MOre moRE MOre moRE!!!:bounce:
really cool beast, any ideas what it will carry?
07-29-2002, 08:31 PM
We need more weapons!
Aje: yep, perhaps the beast could walk more naturally with the back legs you said, but it would look too aracnid, i think, with the legs set it has now itīs very funny to ride through the dessert, the smooth swing combined with sudden jerks, as a three limping legs camel :bounce:
Gabe iīll add the details with the accesories and the cargo, cuz the deadline is over my head... he he as always.
IC4- iīve got a few ideas obout the cargo, it will carry a great saddlebag on one side and the nomadīs house on the other one (if i got enough time)
08-02-2002, 01:59 PM
One member of the bobīs crew. Heīs pointing to the deadline, wich cames in itīs inexorable way, as only deadlines can.
08-02-2002, 05:38 PM
Really like it Mr.Pancreas!
Hope it all comes together for you!
08-03-2002, 07:51 PM
Yhanks Mr. Stabbins! I hope so:wip:
08-03-2002, 09:43 PM
Your driver character looks absolutely amazing. The gun turret looks really cool too. There are so many sweet details on both. It looks really great.
08-04-2002, 05:02 PM
Zr0-1 thanks very much, iīm working at full throttle :D
08-04-2002, 05:17 PM
This is really one of my favorites BOB s. I like the original legs, beutifull head and great Dune like atmosphere
08-04-2002, 07:06 PM
Thanks Levius, itīs true, i realize it has a Dune look..... mmhh, my subconscious is so influenced...
08-04-2002, 08:12 PM
Looking great. I love the main bridge bit. The controll board looks really detailed and all of the weapon stations look sweet.
08-04-2002, 11:31 PM
And the final renders:
These are the 3 images my computer was able to render, the great image (the three above merged) hi-res 1024x614 is here:
Finally i couldnīt finish the cargo on the right side, the capsules on the left side are the freezer rooms, where the nomads sleep (in turns).
ZrO-1 thanks very much, your replies have cheered me up to finish this beast.
