im trying a max6 texture bake using lighttracer, a targetspot light and a skylight.
when using the spot with raytrace shadow it doesn't seem to work :
no color bounce or nice fading shadow... just plane colors and sharp shadows.

changing only the shadow to shadowmap or advanced raytr and it works fine...???
:surprised

i remade the exact scene in max5 to check and there's no problem using raytraced shadows.

so only logical conclusion i can think of is that this must be some kind of bug in max 6???

I can always use the adv raytrace shadow to solve this, but it would be nice to be able to work with the normal raytrace shadows also...

anyone has had the same problem? Anyone has found a solution?

ok the baking did work fine in the end, however i did try the 'new' max 6 network TBing, that didn't work very good.
same problem : no color bounce or nice fading shadow... just plane colors and sharp shadows.

doing the TB on my workstation (no network TB and the adv raytr shadows) it worked just fine...

what is the point of having this network addition in max 6 if it doesn't work properly

does discreet do some testing at all when the release the new version or what? :curious:

by the way : eventually the scene renders in about 1 min and 30 secs... with full GI and all, so it did work out in the end
when i get to the office i'll try to post some samples FYI
