"If you described it before as Fort Knox, nobody would blame you. Nestled deep within the lush countryside of Twycross, Warwickshire, Manor Park houses the memories, the dreams and the realities that have shaped the industry over the last decade. The mysterious aura that surrounds Rare’s inner workings has done wonders for the British developer in the past, spawning many high-quality fansites into fruition with the sole purpose of reporting and speculating on the rumours that seemed to emerge from Manor Park almost chronically.
Since 1999, Manor Park has housed the assorted development teams, musicians, management, public relations, cafeteria staff, some various farm life, and Leigh Loveday. Situated atop a hill in a 70-acre block, the 40,000 sq/ft modern-style structure is currently home to just over 200 employees, all continuously tapping away on Rare’s future titles for both the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. Just like the direction of these titles, Manor Park and its inner workings have long remained estranged from the public’s invasive eye. In all of Rare’s rich history, there have been only several occasions where members of the media have been granted access beyond Manor Park’s double doors. Since the companies inception, only one website has had this privilege. In late 1999, the revered Rare fansite ‘Rarenet’ was given the honour of exploring the freshly-painted walls of Manor Park in their entirety, and what followed was one of the most candid recounts of what it was like to enter Manor Park.
Only Rarenet had that privilege… until now. As a mark of thanks for years of quality coverage of Rare’s titles, Rare management was only happy to grant Rare-Extreme the exclusive opportunity to take a look inside Manor Park to see how Rare tick."
