hi folks...

i recently discovered a strange behaviour when using the move tool.

when maya is in transform mode and i left-click on an object, it gets selected, but i can already move it by not releasing the mouse button. because of this, it often happens, that i unintentionaly move the object, although i just wanted to select it.
i never discovered this problem before.

im sure you switched on mayas click-drag behavior by mistake. in this mode you dont need to select your objects before transforming them, just click drag on them. Quite useful for doing a lot of tweaks, i have a hotkey for it, but you are right it can be annoying when you forget to disable it. unfortunately, it doesnt work in the UV-Editor.

i will check it when i am at home tonight, one can create a togglebutton for it.

how cool would it be, if one could define this behavior "per object" for example for the controllers of a characters wrist...

Preferences>Selection>

Click Drag Select

Lets you perform one-step click-dragging with the transformation tools. You can move one object using the Move tool, then click on a second object and the Move tool displays. This means you do not have to select the object and the Move tool again-you can keep using the Move tool on any subsequent selected object. The default is off.

Maybe this perhaps?

yes annaleah is right....
it is under : Window>Settings/Preffrences>Prefrences

then go to "selection" prefs and you want to uncheck "click drag select"

this is a great tool for modeling... but i find it horrible for doing rigging... becuase you accidentally move objects every time you select them in that mode... my $0.02
