Here is my latest project. Not a big fan of the show, but I thought she would be fun to model. Not sure which game I'm going to put her in yet. Was thinking either ut2k3/4. Anyone know what the ideal tri count for character models for unreal is?
Well, here she is. Bring on the crits!

Awsome hehe

Been watching the show on Adult Swim myself lately, pretty good :)

Her ears are low imo, i dont have a pic of her but they cant be right :O

Looking good so far :)

Unreal models are like 3000 - 6000 from what ive seen, the ideal counnt afaik would be around 3500, but ive seen people go all out with well over 5k on theirs before, i wouldnt though hehe.

I looked at her ears last night when i watched, they are kinda like that but yours are still too low.

Need to bring em up to her eye's level, and round the top of the ear off a bit.

The face doesnt seem right to me but a texture may fix that, hard to see a anime char in 3d sometimes :P

nice work, I love the series myself, and had at one point considered doing her.... (got distreacted with other things)

my only crit is her cheeks....she looks like she sucked on a lemon!
I'd say you got the jawline ok, but you need more mass between that and the eyes/mouth, and tuck that chin in a bit...she looks like jay leno! :D

tryand is right, you need to move the ears up, alot!
for ref, the attached part of ears go from the bottom of the nose, to eye level. (not from below the eye to the bottom lip)

just think about where your ears are when you put on some glasses, they make a straight horizontal line from your ear to your eyes. (though in robins case she wears them further down her nose like reading glasses)

all in all, good likeness, can't wait to see the rest! :D

Thanks for the crits. Went ahead and fixed the ears and cheeks. Right now im trying to find references for the body, which are rather scarce I might add. Have a few decent ones, will see what i can come up with with what I have. Updated the 2 top images in the first post.

I have a tv card and can screen grab some when its on again ;)

But then again, shes not in her usuall clothes or hairstyle atm afaik, at least in the last one heh.

Ill try to snag some monday night.

Ears look good now, they are kinda lower than normal in the show, but still close to the average spot and i think those look better now. Her eyes look wrong now though.

That would be awesome if you could get some body shots of her. Was thinking of having her in her red coat just so you know, but anything would be fantastic.

From the side, the head doesn't look long enough (front to back). There's actually quite a bit of head, behind the ear, and more thickness gets added with hair.

BTW - Those big pics take a while to load.

I think the face needs to be wider. Excellent start, though - hair is perfect :).

The hair is perfect, the profile is perfect, the front view, well, that's a diffrent story. Her head seems very narrow and the face seems alittle long. Try widening and shortening the head.

Thanks to all for your crits and comments. Finally got some time for another update. Worked a bit on the head, but mainly started on the body. The left side of her coat is the most recent.

Nice Work! Fan of the show as well. One question, though. How would you go about rigging the hair? The reason why I ask is because I'm doing a Knight Character similar to the one's in Dragon Quest and it's got this hair piece poking out the back similar to your model and I have no idea how to rigg it for real-time. Is it just bones?

btw, the profile of your ROBIN model is dead on! One thing you may want to consider, ROBIN sort of always has these sad looking eyes that droop down a bit. If you capture that in your model, you'll really get the likeness down.

Good Luck

Frankly I havent had much experience rigging myself. But I was thinking of just using bones. If anyone who knows a more effective way of rigging hair id like to hear it as well.

What you need to do is have nice flowing circles around the mouth area and get lines following human facal structure.
It will make it much better. The chin is way too long.
It also looks like her face may be a bit too long as well.

I haven't ever seen the show, but I went and looked it up. It looks really cool, it has a cowboy bebop feel to it from what I saw.

It would be nicer too if her chin wasn't so pointy too. I know anime does this in shows but it doesn't quite work for 3D. WHen you mostly see 3D anime they tend to change quite a few things.

When you rise your arms like that, your arms move up so there isnt that huge distance from the top of the chest to were the arms go out. Rise the arms up and that should fix the problem.
Its that slop down to the arms with the coat that looks really werid.

FOr unreal characters I would say you skip modelling the folds and do them when your texturing.

Rise the ear up its way too low [Keep it between the nose and the eye brow area]

There are odd flow of lines on her right shoulder [close to it] These lines may cause deforming problems.

I think you nailed the hair pretty much and the clothes are working.

P.S. IF anyone knows how to rig hair VEry well then please give out a shout :D
If the character has many planes of hair.. what do you do :[?

Xero': thx for the crits, took care of a few.

TRyanD: Thanks for trying man =)

Here are some updates. Been having some weird problems with lighting due to the mesh, and the lights were acting funky by having the wireframe render at some spots.

Looking good ^^ there seems to be some tweeking needed on the hands, they look a bit off on the last pic, and dont forget about her glasses, if shes going into combat she wears them, (in show atleast) other than that good job *clapping hands* and lets see some textures ^^

very nice man , but i think the hands are too big even if i know she's wearing gloves, but proportionaly she would look nicer with smaller hands, post a screenshot.
