View Full Version : Beast of Burden - Character - prayas
prayas 07-04-2002, 08:21 PM I've been watchin this board for some time and now decided to show my models in this content. I'm not a good character modeler - in fact this will be the first organic model.
All works done in Cinema4D.
So please drop a line if you have ideas for bringin this to a good finish.

After 5 h of work on this. I've seen many similar concepts in this challenge. Maybe i'll change my base a bit.
Anyway the second pic. Human only for give you an idea on the size. P..:

Ok here it comes. Another update. I made up some ideas for the load of my beast. Next thing to do is makin some straps for the load and some scene for placing the model in. Anybody around here abled to help me riggin' the model in C4D? I found a tutorial but don't know if i can do this on my own. P..:

It really looks very nice, I like the idea and some of the details, even for the beginning, are amazing. I can't wait to see the final product.
God luck!!

I like the BoB design. It reminds me of a mammoth without the ears and trunk. Very cool.

I was inspired by that elephant sice but it is supposed to be more a reptile animal so it's getting no fur or something like this but sort of reptile skin. Maybe just an elephant skin! Don't know yet.
just started rigging this beast. means learnig to do this but I found out that it's really easy in Cinema4D. Just placing bones and then making tha pose.
Thinking about a pose now.
2roman: this beast is for lifting the stones and then carrying it away on hanging on that crane.

mhh, if that is it's sole purpose, then maybe make the stones a lot bigger
right now the beast looks kinda useless to me if it's just there for carrying those (relatively speaking) tiny stones

Guten Tag in den Norden von Deutschland. Sorry just for the last post.
The size of the stone has been corrected. I'm trying to post img tomorrow. Maybe the beast needs some kind of wagon behind it or some kind of platform to put the stones on.

not even finished the complete concept. I'm not ready with the model but needed bones for making the final pose as stated in the guidelines for this contest. just want to have a little learning effect by this challenge.
Got a question. Having small problems making the bones in C4d.
Already finished a setup, but when i fix the bones and afterwards move them the whole mesh is badly deformed?
I don't really know how to handle this?
Greetz to C4dusers around visit my playground for some more work. ::.. www.prayorpanic.com ..::

Maybe the reason is no time? I got lot of stuff to work on!
Thanks for the comments. I'm doing some work on the load right now. Got a little trouble with making the right size of stones for such a huge beast. Also doing some work on an idea to put stones after lifting.

Hmm,
I think that is quite impossible, such a huge block of marble. Either the beast tips over, or the crase bulges.
Maybe the marble texture is temporarely, I'd replace it with a big crate or something a bit lighter.
Really nice creature btw, Keep it up :D
Oh, the creature is flaoting above the ground plane. Thought I'd mention.

@Joril THX for the comment. Made them stones a bit smaller.
also continued working on that crane. Not really good mechanics skills on my side.
If anybody likes to helps me with that crane.
here is the pic

Well, the crane as it is now would just hang down, it doens't have any support yet. Normally there would be some pistons on it, but that requires oil and a high level of technology - and I'm not sure that's the case with the setting of your BoB.
A more primitive crane would be made with pulleys.
like so:

I suggest you do some investigating about ancient cranes and levering systems. Search the net a bit :)
Hope it helps :wip: :D
