Here's a creature model I just finished for my portfolio and I'm looking for any comments or critiques on it, wether technical or artistic. Kind of a Metroidish alien carnivore. It's 1944 triangles with a 1024x1024 texture w/ alpha. The first link is the 2D concept and a beauty render. The second link has screenshots of the model with no shading or lights, with lighting baked into the texture, and a wireframe. Thanks for looking and any replies.

Nice model overall. Nothing really to crit... maybe if really picky i'd say the colors are to saturated.

looking good, totally reminds me of the gamesworkshop things... tyranids, i think? which is cool, as it looks like it could just slot into their collection, not implying that its copied from their designs :)

Now thats one grotesque looking creature.. I like it! Wicked use of of polys.
If you are looking for crits; mine would be that it is too busy. It is a bit confusing, difficult to get a real sence of the structure of the creature. Keep in mind the silluette, I would like to see what it looks like with those two arm things removed.

Cool, it would make a nice NS alien :P

Cool, thanks for the replys everyone. I'm glad the words "grotesque" and "freaky" were used to describe this critter. That's what I was trying for.

RmachucaA & BigRedDogg - I see what you guys are saying, and I think you're right. Overall, it may be a little busy with the color saturation and sillouhette, the tail underneath I think is a little confusing. At the same time, I kinda think I can maybe get away with it with this creature though?

quasmaster - Dunno if I'll have time to rig it and animate, but it would sure be fun!

Fatkid,

I think you can definatly get away with it :) The model is killer, just nitpicking. I would still like to see what it looks like with the arms removed.

i really like this model. very nicely done. I dont have a problem with understanding the actual structure. at first i did, but then it came easily.

Use some alpha on the calws.

I said this too then edited it out because there is indeed alpha on the claws. look at the render.

The feedback is much appreciated. Thanks Akildee, that makes my day. Regarding the alpha, the first link includes a render with the alpha transparency, the second link is just some viewport screengrabs, with no lighting or shading (except baked in the texture), to showcase the model and texture without a render to make it look all purdy. Is the model displayed in the viewports considered "Open GL". If not, what is Open GL?. Anyway, thanks all! Time to rig this freak!

cool model and texture but something bothers me about the design.

You have this nice flow in the model but that "head" kinda thing with the orange eyes is really disturbing. It just stands out way to much and has nothing of the slick design of the rest of the model.
