I guess the subject about says it all. :)

The fruit tex are darktrees. The orange skin is a standard DT material and I made the apple skin.

Great stuff Adam...

the modeling is exellent and so ar the textures.

Two coments though, the texture on the bowl strikes me as a tad strange. And I would like to see a little more action in the forground.

Other than that great :), keep it up...

Wow, very photorealistic, only the far side DOF seems little too high.

Thanks Ndat. Good points. I started out just making a fruit bowl for a larger scene but as usual I got carried away. :) So at the moment it's sort of halfway between an "image" and a prop. I think I'll keep at it for a bit though because It's starting to grow on me a little.

Michaeli: I'm undecided on the dof but I'll play with it some more.

Real Nice. Funny, I had an urge to make some 3D Fruit earlier.

Very nice Adam! The specular on the table seems a bit high for my taste. Excelent detail on it but if it is that detailed, and it is in an area of fequent use, I don't know that it would be so shiny.

got to pat ya on the back here bud...scenes like this are a great learning device but i never have the patience personally...god damn it!....anyway they teach you so much...texturing...modelling..lighting...composition...camera usage...the lot ....they are all encompassing in the sense you can't afford to be weak in any area of the scene as the viewer will generally spot it....in this case i don't really see any weaknesses so you get top marks from me bud. only crit and not very fair...is all the fruit seems packed/jammed in flat for display without that looseness feel to it...eg if i chose and apple and took it from the bowl the rest would come tumbling out...heh heh...v subtle though...and i'm not sure you need to mess with correcting as its still convincing as is...and i'm being over analytical...

Really nice Adam.
I really like the oranges.
Are those a specific type of apple? The reason I ask is if they are, could you provide us with a reference image... the texture seems just a little small and perhaps not quite red enough. There seems to be quite a bit of dull haze on them.
The bowl seems a tad too thin on the edges and the color is a little dull.
The wood on the table needs some work, I think the spec is too high. And the spoon bottom could be rounded a bit.
Most of these might be just personal preference.

Great job!
You're doing some really cool work these days.
(I guess that statement infers that all your old stuff sucked :) )
Rock on AdamT

Very nice

As stated earlier the DOF is too exxagerated (and happens to quickly) making the bowl almost look like its floating.

The apples look great. The oranges appear almost yellow green on my monitor (Apple LCD). I didnt even realize they are oranges. It could be an Apple-PC gamma thing?

Same for me on PC.

Cool, thanks for all the comments! It seems pretty unanimous that the spec is too high on the table and I think so too. Strangely it's really impacted by the diffuse reflection settings, i.e., too low samples and the spec really jumps.

Wes: I used an apple from my fridge as the tex reference but I don't know which variety it is. I think I did scale down too much, but just a little. Side note: do 3D people have the strangest desks in the world? Presently in addition to the usual crap and clutter mine is boasting a wood spoon, and apple, a teapot, and calipers. :)

Joel: the oranges are a little on the yellowish side on my PC, but I think within the gamut of what you'd expect in an orange. But I'll give'em a little more to alay any confusion.

Flingster: thank you very much--encouragement is always a blessing.

Gotta say though, I'm a little disappointed that no one has worked in a bad "that's apples and oranges" pun.

So far so good. When I good at this, the yellow apples seems a bit wax-like. The yellow apple in the foreground has slightly too much specular.

Regarding the DOF, I also concur with previous commentors: in the interest to better the image, the DOF should be send further back of the image.

I look forward to seeing your fixed up version if you choose to modify your scene. :-)

Looks great Adam T. My only comment is that the stalks on the apples look too small. Apple texture looks great to me (they could be Breaburns), and yep the oranges look a little yellow to me too.

People modeling fruit really gives me the pip. And you definitely don't get the wooden spoon for that render.:scream:

I think the apples look really first class. I love the texture and think it's spot on.

I have to laugh at some of the comments ! The texture on the bowl may need some work, but it's too thin, come on!

I could wax on for hours about the apples but I do think some areas are ripe for change. We'll no doubt be bowled over by the finshed item. The oranges are coming out strange colours on my monitor but don't get on my pip. They do show a certain zest for this kind of work. Don't alter the bowl to much or you could end up a basket case. I'm sure once reworked the whole thing will be very "appealing". Okay enough, enough!!

Good work Adam

looking pretty good Adam. I would say that most fruit exhibits some degree of translucency, especially orange skin. Maybe some really subtle SSS will help.

Good stuff.

Great pic - but the oranges definately need to be more orange - i thought they were green apples at first - i thought Wes was joking when he said about the oranges - i had to look again
