View Full Version : steampunk - paramedic >_<
Prs-Phil 03-07-2004, 11:04 PM this guy is for the cg chat challenge
He is supposed to be a steampunk paramedic. I´ll add hudge injections and knifes at the end of the model but I tend to change the design on the fly during the modeling process.
around 1800 faces atm
C&C would be great

doesn't seem all that steam puckish to me. It seems to lack those low-tech solutions to todays high-tech devices. It looks more Space Marienish or Alien than Steam punk. If you were to look at (for examples) Back to the Future 3, Wild Wild West, or League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. All show very good examples of what steam punk is. By definition it is a subgenre of Science Fiction, in which radical technological advance takes place in the early industrial era; the name comes from the fusion of Cyber Punk's edgy techno-noir with, well, steam engines. Books by Jules Verne and H. G. Wells are some of the first really recongnizable steam punk (though they pre date the name.)
To me this model seems more to fit into the realm of Cyberpunk than steam punk. He could easily be augmented with cyber parts or tools. Although a complex system of pullies and gears along with aged brown leather and a set of magnefing lenses attached to an eye might add more to the steam punk look, but right now he just doen't have it. By adding hudge injections and knifes you'll only make it look more like it belongs in the horror genre. Try thinking clockwork, steam boilers, and other industrial era sciences.
Other the that though the concept and model look solid, they just don't look steam punk.

thx alot guys
@dhin
thx for the comment but I can only say ... just wait and see, this is just the base. The thing aprin he has is indeed going to be out of old leather, ... I want to give him more of a butcher type
but I will take into account what you said to give him that style I´m aiming for :)

It's definitely looking cool! I really like those muscles on the arm, great work here. Unfortunately I don't think you have captured your concept very well, which is kinda sad in my opinion because the model lacks a bit of character I think, especially in the face. Try making him bigger like in the concept because that looks kinda cool. Außerdem könntest du dich mal wieder im ICQ blicken lassen, alter Schlingel ;)

the front silhoutte looks really really great. But the side profile bothers me. I think it's either that his head looks small, or his neck looks squished. or maybe his head is to forward for where you have spine set. I would just tweak his silhoutte in that direction. Good Job though.

I think the chin needs to be pulled forward in the side view. He appears to have a larger chin/jaw area than his upper head area(if you will) from the front view, but from the side it appears that his face is larger from the lips up. Great job though man, keep it up!

I like the changes to the face and profile actually. Much more character then what you had before.
Looking very good, but it still seems to be missing something I just can't say what. Definatly going in the right direction though.
