Ok so here is my Beast bief:
The Terremoth
This beast is from a planet similar to earth. It's used as beast of burden by a litique civilization similar to Egyptian or American indians. This guys are great architect, building huge monuments and palace 10 times bigger than terrans. The Terremoth is primarly used for pulling huge blocks of stone to the building sites.
Appearance
This beast is big as 5 elephants, maybe some 25 tons weight.
Mammals, and rumiant, it's similar to bisons or african buffalos, it have huges horns like them. A great characteristic of the Terremoth is his 8 legs and 4 eyes. So his body is longuer in proportion to a bison.
I'm sketching now, i'll scan tomorow. Seeya!!

Wow, looking great there Fedron. I didn't think an 8 legged beast could work, but you . . .. you give him style and functionality. Awesome!! Are you going to draw in the harnest and equipment as well?
Otherwise, really nice prilimenary sketch, I can't wait to see more!!

Funky concept. I like the 'doubled-up' aproach to the features. Very cool.

i like those doubles too...the only problem is the tail is single

Thamks for the comments guys:).
I'm working in some new sketches and details the terremoth, hope to post it soon. I have no scanner at home so it quite difficul, maybe i gonna draw on coreldraw.
Cheers.

Guys, i have a question, can somebody answer me?
Can we use multiple, doh, how do you say that in english, a multiple attelage? i mean 2 or more beast pulling together?
Lildragon are you there?
hypercube
07-13-2002, 11:40 PM
That's a damn cool idea and design..when I read the description I was a little worried, but then it said bison/buffalo..that's cooler than I ever pictured it, and much more workable than mine. :)
Look forward to seeing that monster in 3D..go go go
P.S. I've seen a couple others in here with multiples, or 2 at any rate..wouldn't think that would be a problem..a 'mule team' of these things would be very cool to see.

Well, I'm not a mod, but I've read the rules over a couple of times. I think you can have as many beasts pulling your burden as you want. I would imagine that if they are just duplicates that are posed then only one would be judged since the others would be for the image compasition and that would put them outside the judging critierea. I would suggest that if you want to use multiple beasts pulling your burden then you should add slight variations to the beasts (like changing the shape of the horns...) to make each of them slightly unique from eachother. That way they would have to be judged as a team of beasts and not duplicates of the same beast.
Hope that helps.

nice concept. ive never seen a beast with that kind of leg structure. That would be one challenging walk cycle to pull off :)

Hey guys i made a new concept, it's based on a walrus as you can see. I love the evolution way of inpiration. However I'm not abandoning the Terremoth.
I draw it with my mouse in coreldraw!!! Hehehe, kindof chinese torture, i finished it in photoshop. Please please Santa by me a wacom or a scanner:shrug: I'm coloring it in this moment.
Which one do you prefer? :hmm:

I prefer the first one....more beastly...the second one is cute...kinda walrus/bulldog thing goin on....although maybe the second guy is much smaller than the first guy and you make him pulling the first beast...lol

Last updates for today.
A yes something more :bounce: , it's about the contraption, i've been thinking about the owners of the beast. And my first idea was a people of wingued dudes. I get this idea looking at this birds wich are allways over big animals. And this give me the new idea for the contraption:
4 of the giant double buffalos pulling from a huge chariot with a tree on it!!!! Hanguing from the branches are the wingued dudes houses!!! Well, the all tree is the house.....
I have the image of kindof giant bonzai pulled by my horned beasts. They use it fom crossing a huge steppe wich is the territory of this horned giants.
What dya think?
I've been doing some sketches hope to scan it soon.
wow this sketches are awesome! if you stick to them your model will be great!
can't comment much on the model at the moment, but I'm sure it will be as good as the sketch
Fedron
07-16-2002, 11:58 PM
Here is a very small sketch of the contraption i describe upstairs.
Fedron
07-18-2002, 04:03 AM
After starting to model many doubt cames to me.
The first one was the not very original cow looking, very used in this comp by many people.
The second was the not enough brute force look i was searching, some sort of terrestial whale.
And for finish the need of a good side sketch with very defined muscle groups for an easy modeling.
My traumatic lack of scanner pull me again to the coreldraw for a mouse only drawing. Hehe i'm starting to getting it.
Okey so here is the new model with 2 variant, the second is with a direct whale reminisence in the throat part. The 2 grey circles are the place where should go the horns, i didn't draw it yet. The eyes are now in the front part and the nostrils are in the top of the head like whales.
So guys do ya like the change? Which one do you preferd?
(no mor sketches i promess from now only 3d :) )

Hope this are the last design update.
I think this is the final version, i made a male and a female, because i want to make an all group following the Treechariot.
The horn of the male is an extention of the nostril, so in fact the nostrils are at the top of the horn.
I'm posting an other version i made more buffalo classic, that's why i will not take it.
Hope ya like it.
C&C please:)
Fedron
07-19-2002, 01:08 AM
the female, smaller, no horn.

The buffalo one
Fedron
07-19-2002, 09:02 PM
FINAAAAL, here is the final version!!!! :bounce:
A mix between rino and moose. I though the moose horn would fit better with the tree chariot and it's more original :lightbulb .
Now time for a harness!! so let's:wip: :wip:
Fedron you're a crazy animal creator!
I Like the new ones with the horns, but I'll suggest to make the foremost legs thicker cause they have a huge head to carry.
The tree thing is good, but how great your beasts are, they can be kind of ecosystems themselves with sort of trees growing on them (the immense mass of old skin they lose can be a rich soil), and why not different races living on , with some troglodytes (digging tunnels inside the beasts) or whatever. There's lot of potential in the concept.
Waiting for updates and bonne chance!

07-19-2002, 10:16 PM
Hey m@!!!!!!! Cool to see you here!!! Apt told me that he give you our path. Are you entering the comp?
Hey you idea IS very cool.
I had a similar one but only the beast driver would have his house on the beast. Where he lived all his life with his family. Liked indian cornac with there elephants.
But what you're saying is much more radical!!!!
Maybe it would be a tree per beast, so if they live in troupeau it would be like a moving forest!!!! What do you think?
Otherwise good to see you in this chat too
Fedron
07-19-2002, 11:11 PM
AAAAARGGGGGH!!! Horns are growing like trees!!!!
yeah but the beast + tree must be symbionts(or the tree is parasite?), not the same thing, I think. So you'll have to know who gives what to who (water, sugars, mineral salts, organic molecules) to adapt their physionomy(they don't have to do the same thing each). Style: your beast have sort of roots or tentacles for a mouth so he pumps what the tree needs, and the tree gives him organic molecules with the help of the sun via the leaves.
I think it could be cool to have much different species on the same beast, but it will be a bit long to model; and must not be out of subject.
I think I will not have time to do this challenge , I'm still working on my woman and on the CG logo contest ;)
Maybe the next one. See you and post updates!

I like your concept sketches. The moose horns are a cool idea, but I don't like the extra set of horns on its back just my humble opinion :D
Apt Pupil
07-19-2002, 11:53 PM
This beast is getting better by the minute!!! I love his new look. He looks peaceful and serene, but he looks like he can kick your butt at the same time if necessary. I think you have achieved almost a perfect unison between your beast and his tree. I also agree with m@ though, making him muddy and a natural habitat by himself would be great.
My little suggestion is that maybe you could make the way back legs go in just a bit, and the front second set of legs go in just a bit as well so that the very front legs overlap the second set. kind of like this little picture I put together (don't mind the photoshop directional light, I use it like the town bycicle:p)
Otherwise, I am really looking forward to seeing this guy finished. Oh, and by the way, I love seeing how you think. It's refreshing seeing someone 'not' jump into the model phase right away. I bet it's going to save you many hours in the long run:thumbsup: Keep up the good work!! Your creating something fantastic here.
Apt Pupil
07-19-2002, 11:59 PM
Just a quick question, is that a second set of horns on his back or just is it just one horn? Perhaps one horn would be better, it would create a triangle instead of a square.
Fedron
07-20-2002, 02:28 AM
Aptpuppil -----> Thanks for the com Apt. I made the tweak you said about te legs. As for the back horn i don't really know yet. I have to do some perspective now (and star with the modeling :buttrock: ).
ZrO-1 -------> I made a new post to keep everybody happy, the all Terramoth family. Hope ya like it.
My last update for today. I restart modeling tomorrow i hope. I'm doing a final character sheet with some perspective and mouth detail (this one is very cool  you'll love it).
Fedron
07-20-2002, 03:12 AM
m@ --------> Thanks for the c&c m@! I will follow some of your concept! This is what i'm going to do:
I taken inspiration in the simbiotic relation between trees and ants. The tree give food and home to ants colony, and the ants give protection again predators and parasites.
So in this case the relation is between the wingedmen (i'll keep this idea) and the Terremoth.
The Terramoth are primarly home and protection to the wingedmen people. The old bull have some climbing plant vegetation growing in there horns wich make them look like trees. For food the wingedmen can recolect the fruits of the climbing plants. They can also take some blood of the beast by a small cut they made. This doesn't affect the giant and is very nutritive. The grease of the skin can be recolected too and used as fuel for lightning and cooking.
Un conterpart the wingedmen give, protection against all parasite and help to maintain the animal clean and free of desease. They eventually can administrate some healing potion too. They are like shepherd, guiding the herd to good food and water resources.
This beast are there home, food AND gods walking on earth.
I will try to do the Treechariot too. This tree should be the High Palace of the Wingued Queen. The royal capital city of the winguedmen, rulers of the great steppe. Brothers of the walking trees, the giants Terramoth.
Well, this is it. Hope ya like it :p .

Ahhhhh OK.
I see why there are the different beasts now. I guess I should have read more closely. :p
Awesome idea having the age groups and sexes all planned out. And I really like how you put them together in the one pic. It helps dopes like me who don't read all of the posts to understand what's going on. ;)
Good concept Fedron.
Waiting for the 3D model!

Hey I HAVE A SCANNER!!!! :bounce:
Here some sketches i did some time ago with the old head design. But i'm keeping the mouth opening horizontaly. I was inspired for that in a caterpillar.
Well maybe the all beast is like a giant mamal caterpillar, the 8 legs, the mouth, the bizarre horn.

07-27-2002, 01:49 PM
wow this beast is really coming along! very original body shape! my only comment is the eyes for now...maybe don't make them so human looking...I mean the iris and pupil and even the spacing between them! maybe alittle bigger with some of that great swirly stuff you got going on the side of you beast incorporated!...but looking very nice!
Fedron
07-27-2002, 05:53 PM
m@-----> I will go for the lowering m@....thanks
Bezerker75 ------> About the human look, it's something i was searching for later purpose. When i will do some effort pose, they'll be usefull for transmiting emotional feelings. But i will change the iris and pupil proportion some maybe this result in a more balanced solution. I agree with the swirl stuff, i was asking myself if model or bump map it. What do you think?
erilaz ------> Hehe, good point Erilaz!!! The swirl was inspired in these chinese lion sculptures. And thanks for the Dali comments, he's my fav artist!!
Hunkasaurus --------> Thanks! Maybe the mythical came from the chinese inspiration that Erilaz commented. I'm happy that you've seen this also!!!

Hey Fedron, First-off let me just say that your BoB is one of the coolest most original beasts in this challenge. I really love the design and proportions you've made for it. With that said I do have a crit :p
It's about the eyes, I think you need to do two things to them to have them look as perfect as the rest of your BoB. First I think they need to be spaced further apart than they are right now. They look like they are about one eye-width apart. I would double that and make them two eye-widths apart. The other thing is more of a suggestion than a crit, but I think it would be awesome for you to make a spiral-curl bump like you have on other parts of the beast's body right where the eyebrows meet...you know at the 'furrow'.
I think those two changes would really do a lot for the face of the beast. Everything else looks amazing.
Original character,Great style,Amazing modeling skills.......U ROX.:buttrock:

07-28-2002, 04:17 AM
Hey guys!!
I have a big doubt about the horns. With horns it looks like Santa. Don't you think? Here is a little try.... So to horn or not to horn.
ZrO-1 -----> Thanks ZrO, your encouragement and crits are very welcome!! I will work more on the eyes i promess. But let me tel you some things i though. The point of doing the eyes so narrow was that to transmit the feeling of huge. If the eyes are in proportion to the body the beast should not look so big. But i may be wrong. I agree with about the swirl, definetely!!!!
OZ------> Hey thanks for the comments Oz. Yours
is really awesome.
ZrO-1
07-28-2002, 08:41 AM
I think if you made all of the beasts the adult males then yes, it would look like Santa's sleigh. However if you made it say like 3 juviniles, a female and one adult male, then I think there would be enough variation to stay away from the x-mas theme.
Crash
07-28-2002, 08:50 AM
:buttrock: Wowza that's great. He's sweat and mighty. As for the horns, I think theywould add more sweatnes to him. Just try it,eventually you could remove them :p. I thought of a humorous character myself. I would make a woman carrying the grosseries from a supermarket. Whata you think, would that make a good Beast of Bordun? :p
Apt Pupil
07-28-2002, 09:29 AM
I like ZrO-1's idea, variation would definatly be an asset. As for the eye's, don't make me take the next flight to Argentina and hit you over the head :p They are to human, they are destroying your fantasy, mythical style creature theme. The eyes at the moment, seem a bit comical. But then, maybe you have something up your sleeve, so I'll see. ..
Heeehhehehe, later buddy.
Fedron
07-28-2002, 09:51 AM
Oh boys!!! You want everything!!!!!
You all want to make me work like a beast of buden!!
I personnaly was slowly inclining myself for the no horn version, thinking that the horn + the huge harness could be too much.
But i will go for the removable vertion of the horns so .
Crash------> I've seen your beast Crash, it looks really freaky but cool. I will do some post soon.
Apt Pupil -----> Hehehe Apt, it would be an honor to have you here and  !!! But i' will change the eyes  . Do you preferd the old one? I was looking at them right know. Or maybe some NO pupils glowing ones?
I'm thinking on the bump map actually and in many details which include the eyes.
Apt Pupil
07-28-2002, 12:03 PM
The eyes are tough heh, I remember an old entry of mine where I came in fourth because I screwed up with the eyes (*sob* and you came in first you . . #%*) I kind of understand where your project is headed so I could understand why you want to have eye brows, but maybe,
HOLY Sweet mother of pearl!!, I tried fiddling around with your picture, and now. . . I can certainly understand the difficulties of your beast's eyes.
Well, after fooling around with it for a while, here is the best of five I came up with. An "Improvement," I don't know:shrug: Don't laugh :p (Something like this, but not this necessarilly)
Anyways, this is just a possibility of many, whatever you come with is bound to be good.
Good Luck

Great change Fedron. I love the new eyes. I think you changed them just enough. They still have a 'feeling' of humanity to them...but not so disturbingly. It's just enough to make the creature seem intellegent and emotive without being outright human looking.

Precioso!

the last the last
Finally after trying many diferents horns configurations i kept the bald one. I though that with the complexity of the harness design, horns would be too much.
i linked the pictures for better definition.

Wow..you really pushed it on this one..kickass stuff. Really has that 'fantastic' or 'mythical' air to it, wonderful design and execution..the swirls are amazing, and the look of the carvings and complex harness..fabulous.

Do you plan to continue the concept? I really like the back story and thought you put into it all, it sounds like an intriguing universe, would like to see more of it.

hey thanks for the comments guys
I finished it i barelly 3 days. I'm disapointed because of the lack on time. I wanted to make a team of 5 beast pulling toghether and of course the tree chariot. And a better bump map with swirls, and.....and.....
Well i think maybe moving my beast to the WIP poll and continue.
cheers:bounce:
