They are releasing a version of maya, free, to learn from?
That's gonna be great, if it's true... Because isn't the retail version like $20,000?

yes it is going to be a slightly stripped version of maya complete, which is ~$8k or so... The learning edition will have waterrmarked renders and non-commercial file format...ie scenes made in learning edition wont work in regular maya. Also no support for plug-ins.
This is just a demo. They are just trying to make it sound like something different so ppl. get into it.

Thats a bit cynical. This release is somewhat more functional than your traditional demo (no feature stumps or time-limits)
I guess the big question is how intrusive the watermark will be.

I thought it was Maya Unlimited, with watermarks, can't use in your portfolio, and it had 2 plugins-Shockwave Exporter and something else..
