Well, I can think of three things:
1. You really do have a light inside the head....
2. Are you using Final Gather or GI? You didn't say. If you're using Final Gather and your shader has some ambience or incandesence, it's probably acting like a light and lighting itself up on the inside.
3. Kinda similar to number 2, if you're using GI, lots of photons are probably entering the head through the eyes (or are coming from a light inside the head) and then bouncing around inside lighting it up.
But you need to give us more info!

yeah, im using Final Gather, i dont think my shader has incadesence to it, but ill check. I think it does this with Final Render and with GI, .
I changed one option, under General tab in Mental Ray setting, called Faces. I cahnged it from both to front, and it reduced the glow somewhat , but its still there.
and no...i dont have an actual light inside the head:rolleyes:

This glowing effect is due to the irradience of your object.
You can use an object as a light with Finalgathering.
So how to deal with that ?
If you get some light just, decrease intensity. You will get less hot spot.
On material never use a pure color, never an Full red color for instance. Desaturating, some material can help too.
Tweak the irradience/radience parameter.
hope this help.
