View Full Version : model/scene problem
ok....here is the problem, if I try to smooth my model I get the following result (image).......it's a standard lambert material applied to the model....
it also tooks around 15-30 seconds to open the scene, and the smoothing takes also this time :(
I tryed to delete the history, poly cleanup.....nothing works :(
Anybody knows what this could be?

have you tried doing a merge verts before smoothing? use a really small tolerance so the verts that are on top of each other become one but verts near to each other dont merge together.
If you've already tried this I apologise!

you haven't got a duplicate of the same model in the same space have you? just try removing a face and seeing if there's a copy of that face there.
it just looks like its trying to smooth across faces that have another face connected at a 180degree angle to the edge. something I've had a few probs with and hilariously found a duplicate of those faces in exactly the same place as the one I were trying to delete.
damn you are right - thx
no idea how this happend......but to delete every face will take me ages :(

I'm pretty sure there's something in the cleanup options. I'll have a look shortly, got to finish some job first!!!

you could try turning backface cull off first then deleting all the visible faces. When you turn backface cull back on you should see the single model. It may not work but give it a shot.

finally a spare moment to try things - office work man!
...If you use polygon cleanup and turn everything off except Lamina faces at the bottom of the options and apply this to your model this should work fine. hope this helps.

I think I know whats going on here....
Right click select vertex/faces, selct all of them, go editpolygons_normals_set vertex normals_ and then unlock normals, then soften harden them as soft as u like.
from here it defenatly looks like the normals

Hi
I had a similar problem before. Maybe you could duplicate a low res copy and move it beside the high res model(the one with problem). Select the Low res first and then Shift+select the high res and in the menu bar(assuming that your status bar shows modeling), "Polygon", say transfer. Open the options dialog, instead of just saying transfer. And then Select Uvs.... Apply. You should have some healthy result now. Try it.
the cleanup with some hand deleting worked fine
thx to all
