hmmm, too many sugarpuffs in a morning here methinks.
I think theres a new version 4.5 coming out soon unless the 4.5 thread thats mincing round this site somewhere is a windup and I've been suckered good style by the rather pretty looking ocean simulation tools...again!

I don't think Maya is over.. But from what i have seen in 4.5 betas i'm disappointed :/.
Maya is not over but it seems like the developing is going a little slow. Theres almost no different from Maya Complete 4.0 and Maya Complete 4.5.
It's sad cuz Maya is a relly great software.

i guess it won't be over now. IMO AW has made the leading product for years. now in these days most of the competitors are coming out with their completely new products. (and some of their tools are just plagiats from maya :) ). so what i would like too see and i guess this will happen, is maybe a new product. it will take a while for AW because of their new structure and everything, but it will come really think.

I don't know if you guys remember an interview a while back shown on cgchannel with Doug Walker. He was basically saying the future plan for Maya was to make it more user friendly, more efficient something along those lines. So perhaps there won't be some really huge new features but instead alot of smaller features added or changed.

Anyone remeber that message someone by the name of MIND posted here awhile back. He's a beta tester for A|W ( or was ) and he listed off all the features coming in 4.5, he even provided some screenshots. Only a few people saw this because the Product Manager at A|W asked me to remove it. MIND had violated the Beta Test agreement so I had to comply. Bottom line is the list was huge the new features were fantastic. In my opinion the individual who started this thread (zerg) obviously has no knowledge of A|W or their future plans. Stop listening to unfounded rumours and speculation. Its pointless.

you are censoring this board because AW asks you to ? is this board affiliated with AW in any way ?
yeah - and this thread is superfluous - maya is hell of an engine - that's why it's at the top and will remain there for the time being

If you got a message from A|W stating that they were prepaired to take legal action against cgtalk and the individual responsible for posting the 4.5 info then Im sure you would comply just as quickly. That Individual had no authority in posting that information.
....and no we are not in cahoots.

to be honest i fiddled around with some other programs and I think Maya has the most User Friendly UI... I fiddled with XSI and Lightwave at the computer lab, and I was completely lost in both those programs... i wouldn't even know where to start... I haven't had a chance to use 3DSMax, so I can't really say about that...
Then again, I've been using Maya for over a year, so maybe if I was a complete novice it would be easy to start with one of the other two... it's like switching from Photoshop to PSP, I think... I've been using Photoshop since 3.0 (sometime in 1993 i think), so switching to PSP would be a culture shock.

I have tryed the Beta.. If you look in the Help file it may look as many features.. But they are all so useless that yuo don't even notice them. Theres no new Poly Tools other then 3 tools which you can allready download on Alias Site.
And also remember that Alot of the text was from Fluid.. Fluid is only in Unlimited.
The only relly usefull feature in Maya Complete 4.5 is the new Ramp Shader.
