Well, This topic brought an image to mind, so I sat down for a couple of hours and roughed this out.. Plenty still to go. The harness is temporary, and I have not decided what this big lug should be hauling...

having fun doing something other that MOAs for pharmaceuticals :-)

nice! i like it!
but i don't understand the way it carries that rock. i mean...
the rock will fall over and the rope will loose its contact to the stone.
i hope you understand what i mean! :p

Shouldn't you be backing up our server right about now?

;)

Just kidding. Cool character design! I like the arms ending in those stumps.

Have a great 4th!

The car is fixed. See you Friday!

Very simple, and yet very expressive. This is going to be a kic´ass model. :applause:

oh man what happened? Did I experienced some kind of time travel? in one day all those threads already and modelling went already that far? are you guys high ??
nice start Xvivo.. one little comment , try to refer to existing animals, even just a bit.. is it mammifer? lezard like? it will help you to go further in details ;)

Not high, just drinking too much tea (and honestly, how much tea is too much tea?)

XVIVO

pascal, i am thinking this beast is a genetic experiment gone horrible wrong. It all started in a lab south of memphis. The researchers combined the dna of a giant sloth, a bull, and a rhino. If that wasnt bad enough, around 1:30 am.. the maintence guy accidently spilled some of his flask in (it was later believed to be Jack Daniels)

What came out was one messed up hunk of cytoplasm with a bad attitude. (he can be tamed though with whisky) hence his beast of burden status. :-)

JEEEEZ, this is pretty close to my concept. Back to the drawing board :) I guess it's just the same type of beast with the sunken head.

But very cool. keep goin cause this is gonna be kewl :)

here it is afew hours later..I removed the harness.. I will just focus on the beast for now. Starting to define the chest fourm, and add some more detail in the claws, arms and back.

I don't suppose you'd want to post a wireframe, I'm fairly new to 3d and I'd like to see how you got that nice "weighty" look to your creature.

hypercube
07-04-2002, 08:20 PM
Woo, this is looking really cool already..love the mass of it. Really burly. The stunted forms are great too, really feels mutated.

That beast definately has some weight to it.:surprised How big is it compared to a human?

fellah
07-04-2002, 09:54 PM
I (as many others) like the weight of this guy alot, really nice idea. I really hope you're going to add alot of muscles, veins etc.. that would be cool to see.

XVIVO
07-04-2002, 11:53 PM
Thanks for all the compliments already!..
here is a wireframe...not too preety to look at..

About the size of this beastie.. I think it is 3 meters tall.. I only have a photograph to go from, and its hard to judge heights. My colleague who has seen several in the wild swears it is larger but i think he was drinkin to much tea at the time ;-)

I plan on adding more detail..veins and such..I am assuming i can map veins right?..I would hate to make the mesh so dense that it can't be eaisly animated .

anyway back to work

I can't believe it.....the challenge has been open like what ...a day...and you have this already...unreal...damn nice start..:nothing to crit yet...thumbsup:

XVIVO
07-05-2002, 03:44 PM
Well here is the next progression...

The beastie i discovered was used in the clearing of battle fields.
(hence the skeletal remains in the cart.)

I decided to go with the vertical "cart" to maintain a heavy feel. If I used the cart behind the beastie, the heaviness would have been diminished. Also I like the vertical composition rather than a horiziontal one...

BTW( the cart is just roughed in..obiously :-)

I like the sense of scale it has in these last 2 pics and with out the cage of skeletons on it's back...but I really liked the idea of the cage and skeletons. Maybe if they were smaller to have the BoB seem that much bigger.

otacon
07-06-2002, 08:51 PM
That thing is HUGE!!!

XVIVO
07-07-2002, 03:29 AM
Well. by all of you replies, it seems that this creature is larger that I first imagined..so I roughed out its new size..Now I think this would be a formidable adversary to have on the battlefield.

sorry for the post-processing..i couldnt resist playing!

let me know what you all think

Thx!

.. the feed back I am fishing for is how do you like size and the concept of the battlefield BOB?

Mike

otacon
07-07-2002, 05:36 AM
AWESOME!!!!!!!!

This thing keeps getting better and better! What will it be fighting? Or is it like a moving fort for all those little men?

oh, and the battlefield looks fine.

ZrO-1
07-07-2002, 06:02 AM
I love the scale and the battlefield BoB idea. Only crit would be the castle on it's back. Maybe have it be a tied together wood fort rather than stone. i would imagine the stone walls would colapse if they were on the back of a beast.

Jhonus
07-07-2002, 08:51 AM
Its a very good concept.

I don't really like the style of the fort on the back. Something a little more streamlined would be good. And rather than just sticking a small building on the back it could be a little more custom built for the situation.

I also can't help but imagine people being thrown off the top by the movement and momentum of the beast. So something design that can counter that might be cool. A gyroscope based design perhaps?

I quite like the scale, if anything it could be a bit smaller,... its sooo huge at the moment.

Is this going to be a defensive unit or attacking? I can see it as being either.

XVIVO

ok..a change of gears..

This BOB is henceforth know as a Ga-tauk. He is equipped with a single operator control (SOC) battle unit. The unit is equipped with a tri-tachyon device (TTD). This is the latest issue of the TTD which oddly enough performs much better then the Bi-tachyon device (BTD) :-)

The TTD has peformed well in simulated battle manuvers.

The Ga-tauk is controlled via a neural interruption device.

details later

Mike

ZrO-1
07-08-2002, 02:53 AM
Oh man! I can't beleive that's upgraded to the TTD! I only just got the Bi-tachyon device. I'm still using my old-school mono-tach device too. It makes great toast. ;)

hehehe

Seriously though. I love it. That pack is pro'lly your best one yet.

hypercube
07-08-2002, 03:14 AM
Looking cool, dig the high tech spin on it. I like the grace of the gear but something with more of a 'business end' would be cool I think..unless they fire in arcs like anime weapons? It looks weighty enough on him, though I think he could shrug that thing off and play basketball with it given half a chance :D

(I had to upgrade to the Bi-Tachyon Device, for some reason no one would talk to me when I told them I had a Single Tachyon Device :p )

XVIVO
07-08-2002, 03:25 AM
Guys, If you cant get your hands on the TTD let me know. I have contacts and i can get 'em at a fair price....hehe

cube, I did play with the business end approach, but I like the elegance of the (SOC) battle unit. Three three spikes emit a very powerful pulse that is quite spectacular to witness..especially to see it vaporize a full grown cow. Now thats a barbecue!!

mike

XVIVO
07-08-2002, 11:37 AM
well I may have to put this "pack" away as a Personal WIP...

having reread the rules..I think I am getting away from the topic.

must have harness
has to haul something(ie. a contraption from it's owner, or even a boulder)

should carry trinkets, suited by owner (ie. artifacts, insignia's)

so I gotta sketch up a new pack..will post sketch when finished.

Not to worry about the TTD, it is safely stored in an undisclosed security hold

It's my favourite Beast of Burden, too! But I dislike the newer science fiction variation. I think your Beast is not compatible with science fiction.
Your skeleton cage was great! I would suggest to go a step backward but I am also looking forward for new sketches!

I must admit I agree with Stange, the best shot for my money (and my current desktop) is the one just after the screen grabs showing the wireframes. The one on the 07/05 is a fantastic piece. I like the continuation with the red eyes later on too though.

Once again congrats to yu and your wife!

Look fwd to seeing you posting again.
