Ok heres my concept. I was goin for a warcraft 3 orcish creature(going on the war3 release). This creature was enslaved by trolls, they harness this beasts power by driving posts into both legs and the top of the head, that are tightened whenever the creature slows down. There are an abundance of these creatures, or were because of their short life span due to this trollish torture. the final render will hopefully have the tear that i put in there, a very sad animal. not sure if im gonna do the troll yet. BTW sorry for the shotty pic, i used my camera and gave it some character hehe. whatya think

Like the proportions on your beast.
Maybe scale the saddle smaller?

Wow, I'm feeling sorry for the poor thing already! Kind of reminds me of those statues of elephants with the teardrop on their cheeks.

wow...Love the first drawing...that's a terrible thing that poor animal has to live with...what is the average life expectancy of your Bob? anyway hope to see some modeling soon...

real quick start, first set of nails temp in there, tail need work and in general gotta refine that boxy look. i think once i ad those posts and the saddle things will start lookin really cool.

I think you should make his head a bit bigger like in youe sketch...I like your start though!

update, what do u think of that look around the peg thingy?

I like the wrinkle (I guess you'd call it) that points towards the corner of the mouth. More of those around the peg would be cool IMO.

I like the shading very much.

I just think you could make the wrinkles on the skin a little softer, because by now they look like smashed paper.

It is a good and simple model.

Keep up the good work.

start of the saddle, once i get that pully on there it will look hot

AroundTheFur
07-11-2002, 12:52 AM
In response to slot, i think if i made it softer it wouldnt look as rugged as it does, and i think thats a big part of it, i mean this guy is old and in pain i just think if his skin was soft it would ruin the feel. what do u guys think?

AroundTheFur
07-11-2002, 01:56 AM
i need crits here ppl please, aside from oh the tail looks flat yea i gotta fix that but what do u think of my final idea, having that troll goblin thing perched on top crankin that thing with an evil face, maybe ill have him pulling a tree down or something. come on pleaaaaaaaaaaaase

If you want a certain feel to it then keep it how it is. It looks fine to me.;)

I have to agree with faeroon in saying that i see enough ppl looking at this, but honestly theyre arent many replies. all we want by posting here is comments and critiques, and all i really get(aside from those of you who do and thank you) is a bunch of me begging for replies. come on guys help me out here what can i do to improve it. I dont think its fair to help out only the guys who have amazing models, cuz theyre allready good and need the least amount of help in my opinion. :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed: :hmm: :shame:

It's weird that people refrain from replying to people's threads, only the big favorites are getting alot of feedback, and also alot of "geeez, that's fantastic"-posts, It's almost becoming a ceremony.
So it seems, my thread isn't getting alot of attention too.

Anyway, I like your model, I can see alot of potential, the torture story behind it aint bad at all :)
You said it was inspired by Warcraft, I also first thought it looked similar to the Kodobeast, but anyway, I think it would look great if you would add some of that bulky armour.
Hmm, I'd also spend some more attention to the face of your creature. Give the lips more definition, give him some nostrils, and also more defenition to eyelids.

The comment Slot made was because the surface looks a bit "beaten", that's because your mesh isn't "aligned smoothly" enough, than when the mesh gets meshsmoothed it gets that look. It's hard to phrase, but manually aligning the mesh is the solution.

Have fun with it and keep it up! :wip:

AroundTheFur
07-11-2002, 04:24 PM
wow actually i did model it off the kodobeast, but only slighty, it just inspired me sorta. i agree that i should smooth that out, with two iterations it looks fine, and i agree with the face detailing, and i think i might make the tail broken/hanging off, this creature is gettin f***ed up. thanks for the crit

ATF---This is looking great so far. I love the nubs coming directly out of the skin like that. Reminds me of those African tribes that put discs in their ears and lips.

Are you planning on putting a lot more stuff on him...or detailing out what you've got going so far.

-Good concept

Batmanuel

AroundTheFur
07-12-2002, 11:45 AM
well i have a good amount of detail to go on the mesh itself i spose, and there isnt really too much more going on him, just the other strap for the saddle, and that crank thing with the straps from that to each peg. then i have to model the goblin guy.

JFrench
07-12-2002, 02:54 PM
I like the concept. Don't stop adding details. Work on the face some more (wrikles, bones). Perhaps give the body some more muscle definition.

AroundTheFur
07-12-2002, 05:14 PM
here the pully system, i guess that cord in there is just temp cuz it looks like butt, even tho it took me a while to set up, i might use belts instead. whatya think of the system itself tho, any ways to better it?

Joril
07-12-2002, 07:26 PM
Ouch!:argh:
You're taking the therm "burden" pretty serious :D

Hmm, any ways to better it? Well, I'd still add more detail. The head (some real beast pictures might help as a reference) could still use some, and the saddle and the belt. Maybe you should start playing around with some bumpmaps too.
Better the system? I'm not sure where the troll goes and if he's gonna have room for his legs with all the cords and stuff.

Pretty cool, keep it up!

Oh crap! LOL! that is a sick and sadistic idea...I love it  I was wondering what the pegs were for. LMAO so the rider cranks the handle and makes the poor BoB walk. hahaha that's friggin great.

Yeah i think almost everyone has the same problem... :( there are now about 250 entries. At least you have people viewing yours though :) After just 1 day mine gets buried under 5 pages of others. and got a reply from Zr0-1 ! btw thanks for your post Zr0-1 if you read this

bump test, he keeps looking older and older, once im happy with the bump and i model the straps im gonna leave this guy be for a while and start the goblin

AroundTheFur
07-18-2002, 05:22 PM
ok i was just too excited to start something new, so im leavin the beast alone for a little while, and heres he start of the goblin. i think its comin out pretty decent.

07-18-2002, 06:25 PM
looking good man!
I should get back to my beast's owner...anyway a few crits:
I think the upper part of the chest sticks out a bit far...just pull it in a bit... also where the shoulder connects to the trapezeous muscles of the neck...looks alittle odd...they should connect a bit more...instead of dipping down...I really like the front view you got there the muscle structure looks good in that view...one last crit...the hands look a bit long...they seem to be about the size of the forearm...if you intended to have oversized hands then I would make it a little more obvious to the viewer..but if not just make them a bit smaller...keep it going...I can't wait to see his face...

ouch poor beast!! maybe you could add some wrinkles around the parts where there is something attached? as for the body of your guy, it's coming nicely so far.. needs a little work on the back maybe.. but the general props are good.
keep it up furboy!

the muscle at the shoulder looks great.but I think you can work on the leg.It looks a little weird at the shin. It's only my personal thought.keep going.

Hey Around,
You may want to look into some books by Brune Hogarth, as hes got great imagery on the muscle tones etc.

He used to Illustrate the Tarzan series and teaches at an arts college in thge US ( I think, dont quote me on this).
ANyway weve got a few of them here and they are excellent resources.

Also check out these links too:
Anatomy of the Human Body (http://www.bartleby.com/107/)
Excellent resource, I use alot. Look at the section IV. on Myology.
Just the pictures of course:)

Good Luck

bah that shit is ridiculous! thanks a bunch! heres a pic for scaling purposes, i will have to go back and fix the structure on him a little, add some definition to the beast itself, add that belt from pully to pully, and then rig and pose them. whew this stuff is time consuming

put some cloths on that dog head character! or make him more male...lol!!!
