View Full Version : Beast of Burden- Character- jjburton
jjburton 07-04-2002, 01:11 AM Alright, guys and gals, it's been WAY too long since I've done any 3d work and I've never done one of these challenges. I figured this should motivate me to actually finish a model so here goes. I'm still playing with the head design some and I've got lots of stuff floating around in my head for the body but here's my start.

Looks good so far, I like the bit in his mouth. It'll be nice to see this model in 3d.

I had some time to work on the face and tweak the body some. Still got a long way to go, but it sure is fun:)

I dunno man... I liked the head in the first sketch better. Seems much more expressive. just my 2 cents tho'. :) I REALLY like the extra pair of legs!!

Got a little bit of time today to tweak some things. I'm playing with proportions right now as well as beginning to define muscle masses. The horns are temporary style and the head is far from done.
Dosadi, thanks for the feedback. I think I know what you mean, I'm still playing with the head, trying to get some more expression, but it's still a bit off. Thanks for the interest though.

70% done on the feet. Rethinking some head characteristics so I took off the horns for now...continuing to refine muscle masses.

I really liked the design with horns, but maybe try a horn design more like a Bighorn Sheep. You know where they curl around and out.
I like the rest of the BoB. It has a really cool camel-like quality to it which I think is nice. I really like the feet.

Zr0- no Sorry, I don't think I was clear. I'm keeping horns, just not sure about placement. I took them off for now so I could focus on muscle flow. Bighorn sheep type horns is a good idea...hmmmmm:curious:

Ahhh OK. I got ya now. I mentioned the bighorn sheep style horns 'cause that's what the horns in your sketch reminded me of. :p So I can't say it was my idea :D

Been a while since we've talked. Yeah...I was trying to be creative and six legs was the best I could come up with:). I think school is taking the best of my creative juices...but that's life. Yeah...I know, muscle mass. This will be my first time to focus on muscle animal masses. I've got some good references, I just haven't had the time to flesh it out yet. Wife's gonna be out of town this weekend so I'm hoping to put some serious time in then.
Marc...looks like you've got the same idea:rolleyes:
Thanks again for all the positive feedback. This contest is finally pushing me to spend some serious time in Lightwave. Whoo hoo:buttrock:

AWESOME work Josh! Its nice to see the creature begin to take 3D form from your sketchbook! I see you will become a great Lightwave master ; )
I agree on the original head shape too btw. The lower eyes offset the focal point of his face makking him more of a "dumb" animal and less a creature with a specific personality, makes him harder to empathise with... I guess it depends on what you want to communicate with him.
kickass work....
Scott
PS LMK when you figure out the best way to make the straps lay against his skin : )
