After having spent a lot of time doing roto work for a project(either painting out or repositioning) I was wondering if there is any software that automates the process like some highend discreet products do. Im interested in removing elements but most of all repositioning, since i mainly work with dv formats that lack the resolution.
thanks

Check out mokey

and 2D3 is working on one called pixel dust, which looks great, but has yet to be released.

If your just repositioning stuff your SOL. It's all doing it by hand work.

What software are you rotoing with? There are some packages made specifically for roto work. Like gFX:

from the creators of Matador Paint.

Hey Jayk2k,

Do you have any info about the Pixel Dust development, because that is anounced at the 2d3 web page for more then a year now, and nothing changed since then.

I just hope that they release that someday, it seems as nice as Mookey.

Cheers,
dg

I don't know anything more than what is posted unfortunately. I was quite impressed with boujou, so I imagine the standards for this new pixel dust are going to be quite high.

I also can't wait till it's released... Would have saved me so many hours of roto on a shot for my current project involving a large amout of crowd duplication sans screens.

Longer than that, I saw it shown at siggraph 00 in New Orleans.

I emailed them yesterday and they are still in development. No betas have been released yet :banghead: and they have not decided on price yet.

BTW, I'm thinking of acquiring their stabilizing app. Any comments on that one?

actually the demo video of pixeldust(the one with the city street) is one of my problems(removing foreground elements, either moving or static camera).
when i said repositioning, i meant that i need a program capable of doing the roto work of a foreground element for me, so i can move it around afterwards.
thanks

Use mokey to remove the foreground object that you want the matte of and then do a difference key between the original plate and the mokey modified scene.
