is it just the maya internal windows that are not passing?
do all other windows pass fine?

yeah, Im curious about this one too, I've got a similar problem where my second monitor doesn't update when I make changes, Its not really a problem, but its annoying, so any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated greatly.

Nah, i can only get the main maya window to be on one monitor at a time too. The other 'internal' windows you open inside maya can go across to the other monitor (e.g. uv editor, attribute editor, etc), but then you run into the OpenGL error, which doesnt let you bring up marking menus and right-click menus on the second monitor. They appear on the edge of the first monitor.

Windows has issues with accelerating OGL across monitors. If your driver supports it you can have it do the spanning and OGL will likely turn out just fine. I don't think ATI supports such a mode though. With nVidia cards you set it to nView mode and it takes care of the whole dualmonitor thing. Windows just thinks one really big monitor is connected to it.

That's the only way I know of to solve running Maya without any problems across several monitors. As long as Windows knows there are two monitors connected there'll be.. trouble.

i dont think its a ATI issue
because i also tried it with 3dsmax and softimage exp. and some other applications , they work just fine. its only maya who doesnt like dual monitor
none of the maya windows get pass to the other monitor
in fact they just cant get out of the main maya window
