This is an animation I have been doing to test a rig on a swordsman character I have been working on. Its fairly short but I would like to get some feed back on the animation.

Large quicktime version (persp)240k (http://www.users.on.net/muppatz/swordsman.mov)

Small playbast AVI (side View)528k (http://www.users.on.net/muppatz/swordblast.avi)

EDIT - Updated links

Really nice work DrAdamDinosaur!
I like the flow and pace.
The only crit I have is the timing on the last pose when he lands. From both views the sword seems to "pop" like there are some extreme poses close together. Also I find that the head coming up is nice, but could be a little slower considering that the head does not overlap so much in the rest of the animation. (it makes sense since he is moving very fast) What would be nice is to make is recovery from landing a little slower ( couple of frames), which will give you time to have smooth recover for the head and the hand.

Keep going! Nice work.

thanks for the suggestions. I think your right about the end popping. looking at it now i think the whole end pose happens to quickly. I think i was trying to keep the timing the same all the way through but it really needed to slow down towards the end there. Don't know how I missed that sword though, thanks. Anything else anyone can suggest?

I think that overall, the action is a bit too quick.

There are areas where he does not seem to be generating enough force to perform the motions that he does.

Also, esp. during the leap, his motion seems to stutter at times. Check your tangents and try to see if you can make this look smoother.

Good luck!

thanks for the feed back. I think your right about the weight problem. I spent a bit of time trying to get enough weight in there but eren when posting I wasn'tentirely happy with it. The speed was a fairly hard thing to judge. When I slowed it down it didn't seem to have enough energy to it. I'll go back and take a look at it though, at that the the stuttering you mentioned. hopefully post another version here soon

ok, done some more work on it. I have played with the timing a bit and fixed up some of the motion (and played with the curves:)) The hardest part is probably the sword. Because its so long any movement slightly wrong is very recognizable, its hard getting it to move properly, and I'm still not sure it does. let me know wha tyou think now. Really appreciate the feedback.

The new version is just a hair bit floaty on the jumps. It's as if his body goes from start to peak and back down to finish at the same speed. While that's probably more true with life-like movement than cartoon, it does need to be staggered a little for believability. also, maybe a little stronger weight feel on the jumps and the landings. Nice work.

Here is an update. I have reworked the landing and played around with the timing. I hve also spent a bit of time trying to make the sword fow a bit better. Having a bit of trouble getting the weighting on the jumps to seem right but I'm gettign closer. Probably needs to be rendered with motionblur on but here goes anyway. What do you think now?

Latest version - 420kb(persp) (http://www.users.on.net/muppatz/blast26.avi)

Havent read all the comments but that first jump is well high, is he some sort of super hero character?

Hey thats pretty good. I like the middle and ending parts of it, but something really isnt working for me with the first jump.

As he crouches in anticipation, his upper body is pretty ridgid and he doesnt use his arms at all to generate momentum that he really does need. Even the crouch is a pretty boring and non-dynamic pose compared to the rest of the animation, which has (imo) lovely poses.
