Hey guys
My name is Mike, this is my first post in the crit forum.
I know the BMW has been over done but I thought i'd post it to get some feedback on it. It's the second car I have ever created in 3D. I spent about a month (around 10 hours a week) poly-modelling it and another month just texturing and rendering it. I learned a lot of stuff as I went along and I learned to use HDRIs with this car as well...hence the long time to complete. Render time was about 10 hours..I rendered about 50 images just testing to see what it looks like with differnet settings etc.
Here are the best renders of it.
I used 3D Max 5 to model and render. Crit away. :bounce:
Thanks to www.ravios.com for hosting my pics.

the model is good, i like the interior, the only think i didnt like in the renders was the backgrounds, they seemed to be a little low on resolution.

man, I like the modeling.
I must say tough that the renders dont fill my eyes.(don't know if this expression exists in english BTW :))
I can' t tell U what it is, but is something in the shaders, more reflections or something.
But the model is great and I just by U saying that U spent two months on it and that U made 50 10 hour renders shows that U take things till the end, and that in my opinion is what realy makes the diference between those tha go all the way and those that don't. That's something I just learned at a great cost (lost about two years of productive learning)
Realy congrats for that.

heh, I know the backgrounds are crappy. I had a hard time finding a high res background to go with the car. The one with the yellow snow is the HDRI set as spherical background and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to zoom it out..it looks low res because it's so zoomed in.
As for the dedication..i thought what I am doing is the normal..lol. I do taht with every project. I render and render and render again until my skills limit me from doing any better. I render anything at least 20 times and I bet I can spend years just tweaking textures and shaders, gotta put a limit to taht though.
:wip:
I'll look around for some backgrounds, maybe i'll whip out another render.

good modeling, not so good lighting or compositing. :)

Any suggestions on how to make it better? I'm not an expert at lighting. I basicaly have one spot light (slightily yellow) as the sun and a couple of omni lights for that GI effect. God knows what the render time would be if I add proper GI.

The second one is definitaly better. The model is really good, but you need to get your lighting to be more real. Try looking for tips in the lighting and rendering forums on this site.
