Hi! :wavey:

I have been browsing cgtalk.com with my mouth open for a while now and so this is my first post. I finished this model of Nissan 350z today and I think it's the best image I have come up with. I got some comments from my pals, that they didn't like the shading of the car. Too smooth and soft reflections they say, but I kinda like it that way, because they use soft reflections in some car advertisement in magazines as well. ;)

I'd really give value to your opinions. Thanks.

Hmm I can't believe no one has replied to this yet.

Excellent render! It looks superb.

My only problem is that the front bumper seems a bit too rounded. Maybe a sharper curve right below the nissan emblen to define that section a bit more. Because when it's too rounded it starts to look like the Lexus SC or the Audi TT. :)

But I'm loving the paint job, the wheels, the lights, the works. Great job!

You should have put a "SHIFT_3dsmax" :)

Looks really good.

One thing though, there seems to be something on the front fender. Looks like a big rain drop or something.

The car is really really nice, congratulations. On the other hand the composition is a bit weak imho, i can't focus my attention on the car. I tried some tweaks in Ps, i hope you don't mind them :)

Hi Migugi

Beautiful model,beautiful render.
I would only remark about the refractless, spectacularless, and all too tranparent glass areas (windshield, side glasses, headlamp covers)along with the paint that looks like it all reverse-facing angle instead of facing angle. All the reflections should be facing from the geometery to the viewers(camera) eye instead of facing away from the viewers(camera) eye like behind the front fender shapes. But then again in a studio like enviroment what would they reflect anyways?
Even so it is a great model and render.

Cheers!

That's amazing. Truly, way beyond my skills.

Just one question though, you can't be only 16 years old, right?

WOOO!!!!!!!!

U can change the things mentioned in crits, but it's all nit-picky stuff.

I looks sweet man. Great, clean, sharp render. Nice, ad-like feel to it.

It's a pretty good model, and a pretty good render, but I am surprised to see this plugged on the fornt page (no disrespect intended dude, none at all).

I would ay the reflections are not as flattering as they could be, a little more definition wouldn't go amiss in my mind.

Cheers!

That's a nice model, but the rims are too reflective, and the spokes are too thin, but great anyway.

What software are you using? Any wires?

It's very good, some things could use improvement. Do you have any renders of different angles? Congrats on front page

Kabab
03-02-2004, 12:58 AM
I really like the shading but some of the proportions and surface look abit off to me..

I take it this is a poly model ?

chrislomaka
03-02-2004, 01:02 AM
very nice. i'm not that familiar with the car, but it seems like the car is made out of brushed steel like a delorian, instead of a super-smooth showroom floor pain job...

03-02-2004, 01:14 AM
that's a nice modeling..!! well done!!:buttrock:

could you show us more different angel of the model render pictures? and also the Wireframe?

Now the angle you choose is looks a little bit strange for me...maybe showing some angle like the image which i attached will make it more believeable

a really good job. nice rendering and lightsetting. i think the yellow blinker is a bit too image like. it seems it's not a yellow glas, u know what i mean?

You can all find a tutorial of how to model a 350Z on the LightWave 3D site at:

The only thing that I would criticize here is that you need to add some reflections. Not much, but enough to make the body look less like plastic. Plastic is probably a bad word.

Excellent work though.

Cheers!

looks great. the only thing i can mention is that the wheels look a little small. They look only 16".
Maybe try 17" or 18"

well, if U still have any doubt about your model (meaning everything) my opinion is the same as everybody else. Fornt page stuff. Congrats

Great Job Man:beer:

What was your lighting approach with mental ray.
I'm struggling with mental ray for maya.
Did you use GI, FG, HDRI or a combination?
Did you use custom mental ray shaders like DGS for your car paint?

Again very well down:buttrock:

GREAT!

You rule! Perfect model. This is one of my favorite rides. I think I'll model this one once I'm finished with others.
HDRI or GI?
Looks neaty and preatty real.

Best regards,

Oh... my.... god...

This is so unreal! I.. I don't know what to say.. =) I mean, I wouldn't consider my self as very experienced 3D-artist, but as my senses are telling me, this is on the front page?!?! Uhh... You have no idea how my heart is pulsating, actually I almost got a heartache when I head about it.

beautiful model, beautiful render. the photoshop doctored image reads better, but there was nothing that the model needs.
excelent work

And now that I have survived from the shock, here are some more pieces of information you were wondering about:

It's 100% polys, modeled/textured/rendered in a period of 2 months. I actually didn't use GI or HDR. It's just a lucky combination of environment-map (smooth gradient) and 3-point lighting with area shadows. The shadow under the car was hand-painted in Photoshop so that might make you think I used GI =)

I'm not going to touch the model anymore, because I have a headache already for working too intensively with it. But it's still good to know what faults there might be in case I model more cars in the future. (Veerrry unlikely, but still)

Thank you so much for all your c&c:s!

Criogen
03-02-2004, 03:01 PM
I wouldn't call it a "perfect" model
there are many smoothing issues and model has strange bumps and differences from the real one

it's nice, but not front page quality

WChestnutt
03-02-2004, 04:20 PM
amazing work man!!! .. no crits!

when you say environment maps, i presume you mean images of some kind... what were they of?...

Cheers

Migugi
03-02-2004, 04:24 PM
I said previosly, that I didn't use HDR-maps, but what are HDR-maps anyway? What I did was that I just set spherical background-map (Max's own gradient ramp -map) so that reflective materials do reflect it, but they don't get illuminated by it, if you know what I mean =) So I didn't use it as a light-source, just for the reflections.

Its a good model, great lighting and pretty fine texturing. But id have to tear it apart on some modeling issues. I started modeling a 350z, but that was just to hold me over while i modeled my g35.
Things to fix, and its apparent from ur wire :
The mesh has some bump issues to it.

1) near t he fog lights, going up to the headlights.
2)at the corner of the headlights toward the grill.
3)The divots on the hood extend even further down toward the front.
4)around the Z badge on the side seems a lil weird(barely noticeable, but im going all out to make this perfect)
5)Seam issues between back of t he door and t he rear quarter panel.
6)door handle looks odd(as if its sticking out a tad too much and needs keyhole)
7)Windows need to be inset more to the mesh. They are too flat with the body of t he car.
8)car mat needs a lil more shine
9)Same with chrome and opposite with tires

Do those and u have perfection. Use this pic and others at www.NissanNews.com

If it's an Asian or Euro version of the Z.....it should have the marker lights under the Z logo on the sides. Everyone I have seen overseas has them.

;)

By the way, looks great. I have been looking for a good 350z model on 3D02.com. There aren't any. You need to put this puppy on there!

Also, how about a render of the rear! That's just as hard to model as the front!
