its pretty good, i dont think theres anything wrong with his arms.

the lower legs and upper body and arms are very well done, but there is definietly something wrong around the pelvic area (not to mention the poor guy's lack of genitals), maybe the ribcage is too wide? or maybe there needs to be more detail where the pelvis protrudes at the sides?, but that area is generally lacking detail and/or somethings wrong with the proportion. but otherwise, its very good ( ;

Well in my opinion the legs could be a little longer, cause they are really too short... please correct me if I'm wrong :D

Well i think the legs are ok, but if anyone else think it's not please share ur comments ;-)

Thx Nev4r for ur comments, i've changed a bit the pelvis area and it looks better now. Have modified a bit the arm, and gotta make the inside mouth now and think i'll be able to go on with textures soon.

Thx for all

You may have fixed it, but the problem with the pelvis is he doesn't have any Glutes. They are the muscles that wrap around the sides/front like tubes that contrast with the roundness of the lower pelvis in the front. I also think that the abs may be sinking into the ribcage a little too much.

Check out http://www.3d.sk/ for lots of great refs, it's worth $10 a month.

That's a great head, btw.

Hope to see an update soon.

Yeah, i'm coming back with an update soon. I just don't understand what u mean by "Glutes". I'm sorry, i'm french and i didn't find this word anywhere so if you can explain what it is...
For the abs i've modified this too since this first wip, and it looks better than this wip picture.

Well thx for critics, really helpfull ;-)

Nice model, but I wuld throw my lot in with the others and say that you should go over everything from just under the ribs to the tops of the thighs. Great definition on everything, and then it sort of goes bleeeaaahhh.. then suddenly one has definition again!

PS - the glutes = derriere!

I'd say you need to look at the abdominals closely. Looking at your profile, it looks as if he's sucking in his gut. Even the most athletic folks curve out in the belly when relaxed due to the curve of the spine.

I would also call into question the pectorals and the clavicles. I'd need a closer shot for a better call on it but they look a bit comic bookish in style. Broad, abstracted muscular symbols, as opposed to muscular forms. I'd say the connection to the sternum needs to be broadened a bit to reveal more sternum. These forms overall are too round. This again is most noticeable in the profile, where I'm expecting to see something of a clavicle shelf that the pectorals connect to. At the moment it looks a little round to me there.

Not enough mass in the throat. Adams apple should be more pronounced. Back of the skull maybe a bit more prominent.

P.S.

Please include some wireframes (per the rules)

Hi, i'm back with some updates, I tried to modified the body considering all your comments. This is the first body i'm working on and i still learn each days about anatomy. Hey this is kinda hard to have a real man looking !! ;-)

I'm not expecting to have a perfect anatomy there as I plan to put some cloths, suffs on after, but i do my best to understand u guys and fix it all my best, and when french and speaking of anatomy in english it's not that easy lol
But then, i'm learning good things and i thank you again for all your comments.

Well, here is the update, shaded views and wireframe one, body and head (head is an old render just to show you more this part of the character).
Does it look better now ? I still have to work on collarbone, then i will put a closer view of it later.

K, I'm at home now, not work so I could do this quicky proportion study for you.

http://nimajneb.com/images/proportions.jpg

Judging on this, the arms look a little long. My own only reach down to just below my ... private parts ( :) ) when standing fully upright (no pun intended). In addition he stands 7.5 heads high. This is well into the heroic sizes and departs from the human norm. That may or maynot be intentional, but it's something to keep in mind.

I'm a bit concerned with the loops around the cheek. The wireframe you've shown a good detail shot of is smoothed, and I can see some obvious tri-poles in the area where the cheek should crease that might cause problems later on. Though I'm not sure.

The body's topology overall is sound. Issues with the abdomen are still apparent. I think you need to work the abdomen transition more. Right now it looks a bit stuck on, as if it's carved on a tube. There needs to be more dialog between the two masses.

Also, the mesh shows a tendency that I have as well, which was pointed out to me recently. Outgoing edges on the limbs stay mainly perpendicular to the limb itself. Don't be afraid to turn and spiral these around the limb as it goes out, to describe muscular form. Check out this thread by Royalwin for a great example.

Thank you Nimajneb for your comments, it's been helpfull, well i hope ;-)

Well on this picture i've fixed up the arm lenght and tried to get a better abdomen. Does it look overall better now ?
For the size of 7.5 heads high, it was intented ;-)
Just a question, what were the two masses you were speaking of for the abdomen ?

Well actually i'm happy with this first character modeling. I think i'm gonna fix a few things before going on with textures but i will not stay long on that. Next body i make, i'll try to have a better mesh with a better muscles description and so on. This is real hard but a really good exercice to make a body !!!

K, can't wait to have new comments on that

I've marked the areas I feel need more work in red and green. Basically what these areas look like to me is that you had one mass, lets call it the trunk in green. Topologically its's essentially a cylinder. The second mass, let's call them abs is in red. What I mean is that there's little to no relation between the two. The human body doesn't draw such a stark line, and there are masses of muscle under the skin that interlace where the oblique and the rectus abdominus come together. I'm attaching a reference pic so you can see what I mean. I'm not saying model every muscle here, but you should use your structure to suggest these masses and their transitions. Also not just how much belly pushes out in even this very muscular example.

Also purely a technical note. There is a edgeloop inside your inital cut for the abs. I'm not sure it's adding all that much, and is just basically adding polys. I'd dissolve it and see if you can get by without it. The clavicles are somewhat improved. The throat could still use some more mass in my opinion. Show some back shots, and some detailed unsmoothed wires. Good work.

Hey, thank you again nimajneb, you are really kind to share all this with me !
Ok then I tried to fix up a few things after reading your last post which was really helpull again.
I've modified the low abs area (see on wire screenshot) and the throat as well. It seems really better to me now than the other meshes. Let me know what you think.

Ok, thx again,

Personally I think his calf muscles look a little low, and his ankles perhaps a shade thin... Overall, decent job though.
