Hopefully the free webspace works...knowing how well they do...ignore all the random other photos/text there, it's a default sitebuilder webpage.

software: 3dsmax
time: about 1 hr, spline modeled then converted to mesh
need critiques on: anything, but mostly how to make the face more feminine. The breasts are also driving me nuts. I know what they should look like - being a girl - but like I want to make the character in her pre-teens to mid-teens, so tell me if they look too small/big/whatever.

About the problems in this piece: I'm an artist, I can see the problems in my piece (such as anatomical/proportion) but it's hard for me to transfer what I know into 3d. I am working globally so there are no details really in the figure. Obviously the two halves are not merged. The face has major problems right now, such as the nose which I will fix later. There is no ear...if you notice i've only modeled the front half of the character so far. ;) I'm going to make her slightly fatter; she was beginning to look like the typical 18 inch waist cg girl. Please critique...I know I'm not very good, but any help keeps me going cuz I'm just doing this to try out cg. High school is a bummer when there's nowhere to go.

It might help if you'd post some concept art for her, the model doesn't give any impression about the character, since it's realistic style and isn't textured yet, so it's hard to comment on this except for anatomical stuff.

The nose isn't correct as it is now, the place where the nostril part meets the nosebone part isn't formed well, the nosebone doesn't taper at the bottom of the nose, it's stays the same width and the curve of the side of the nose with the nostrils isn't so deep in. Uh hope i explained this right ^0^

Good luck with it :)

i usually worry about the proportion later. but right up to this point you have them correctly.

for the head. the corner of the mouth is too far out. eyes are too big and too far apart. humm..... can you post a wire plz?

Hi!

The body is looking much better. The head is much too big for the body. The best thing is to finish the shoulders and the legs down to the knees. One thing that I do is to render it and look at the silhouette (in maya turn off all lights) when modelling don't just look at the positive space (arm, torso, etc) that you see - Better is to look at the negative space (the area between the arm and torso) in other words the open air parts where the body is not inhabiting (this is a traditional 2d technique!).

It can be so hard to get the proportions right. I think you should (as I do) check reference websites such as:

http://www.domai.com/photos.html (great reference for your teenage witch)
http://www.fineart.sk/
http://www.3d.sk/

These are really great reference sites. You don't HAVE to join them. Just for you to be aware that they are there. I hope they really help.

The other thing I would say is to create the 3d model in the same way as you would draw. keep it loose and happy! :) Creative 3d is an art. so many people copy cars from blueprints, etc.

Its great to see more female artists creating 3d both young and old!

Hope this helps!

update, please help with color of base shader, this is all just for testing as I have not quite finished model yet

this is just a default shader with a basic MSPaint color map to test the uv coordinates

i heard you should have red and blue shadows, but it looks strange

the original shader is bottom right

if someone can explain stahlberg's toon shader to me, or any way to get rid of hard shadows
