Familiar subjects... try sliding the Key light further away and to the side so it hits all the apples from the same direction, and give it a softer shadow. Render your scene with just the key and make sure you love it and the apples are well defined in shape. Keep fills very dim but one needs to come up from below the plate, and the other from a higher angle so there's some shading within the shadow areas. Back light should go lower, just barely appearing above apples in camera view, and further right because that's where you need more contrast, and should be exclusively on the apples, not making a big highlight under them on the plate.

Cheers,

-jeremy

In addition to what Jeremy said, if it's your first lighting test try heading over to Andrew Whitehursts page and read the tutorial he has over there. . .a must.

hello jeremybirn
I adjust some of the light as you mentioned .here is my small updated version.Do you know how can I link the light to the object in maya? and I am not sure what kind of light is good for 3 point lighting?I am not happy with the composition yet.I am thinking to put draprey in the background.
