the guy (the ancient Greek god Bacchus, the other name for Dionysus) is engaging in masturbation.

his left hand is used to shade his eyes from the light.
he is looking down, possibly to the god doing the same on the cloud *below* him. he's a step above in a social hierarchy.

hence, this painting tries to speak some truth about the leaders of the packs, namely that they are as human as the rest of us.

I don't want to be a know it all.
But "Bacchus" is the Roman name for "Dionysos" which is the Greek name for the winegod.

That's some great work man! How long did it take to complete?

yes, your information about Dionysus' name is correct. oh, I just got it. you object to "dionysus" as opposed to "dionysos"..

well, me being a greek, I've often found that people have trouble relating to "dionysos" which of course is the correct spelling. but in the end, it makes no difference, as Dionysus is legit. in international terminology about greek mythology

the painting took, all in all, about 1.5 months to complete (about 200 hours) and is about 3000x pixels in size at 70dpi.

j/k - I think its pretty cool.

so is this 2d/3d? 2.5d (what the HELL does that mean?). I'm not very familiar with ZBrush.

he's 2D. I use zbrush because it has some neat 2Dbrush features, like a REALLY memory-cheap smudge brush (considering it's a huge file, my computer gets a little taxed in photoshop)

about 2.5D... have you ever used Painter? there's a feature called "impasto" where you can add 3D texturing to your painting. that's the closest I can find to 2.5D in Zbrush.
also, imagine a painting of a landscape, upon which you want to add a 3D mountain: you can paint all you want on a 2D planar layer in Zbrush, and then you can model/import your 3D object and place it accordingly.

note that Zbrush is a good program for 3D, even for 2.5D but I like it's 2D capabilities a lot too.

you can try www.pixolator.com - a forum for general technical information. just don't get too attached. I was banned, because my works "insulted their sense of wellbeing, and the family spirit of the forum" (their own words - would you believe it)
