View Full Version : Light Domes & Renderers - ?

Hi all, just a couple of quick questions....

First of all (And I'm sure there isn't, but I thought I would ask) any relativley cheap renderers out there? I've downloaded the brazil public beta, and I am very pleased with it, except for the price of the full version - A little hefty considering I'm going to have to fork out for Max 5, and all it's plugin upgrades.

Second question - What is a good way to produce daylight with luminosity effects (without brazil!) I've tried lighting domes using around 60 lights, produces great ambient lighting, but no luminosity, and Plus it leaves a mirage of white streaks on raytraced objects (Even tho each light has specular turned off...?)

Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated, thnx in advance,

best way to produce daylight is to use the direct light instead of omni and spot..with some little yellowish color on it ..but use omni and spots to simulate the global lighting effect..and use sharp shadows like shadow map put to 2000 resolution and bias to:0.5
that should give you a basic start ..afcourse many other ways exist , hope this helps ..goodluck:bounce:

If someone could post a picture of some nice light-setup in max to simulate global illumination and/or sunlight, i would appreciate it..

Here is my meager attempt at global illumination in Max 4, Rendered with regular scanline renderer. Excuse the teapots.
