Excellent! I love all the detail, this is very good. Texturing should prove a good challenge. No crit, 5 stars!

Cool, if you put the same detail into the textue it will be awesome.

hehehe just kidding
nice modeling:thumbsup:
you should soften the shadows
and the blade edge where looks a little weird to me
MrWyatt
07-03-2002, 03:36 PM
do you want to animate him? if so this will going to be a hell of a setup. wow 76k , as a still it´s worth every poly, but i think rigging and deforming that dude must be a pain in the buttocks:eek:
dgpilot
07-03-2002, 03:42 PM
depends... sometimes robots are 200 times easier to rig than organic models. In max for example, all you would need to do make a biped, and link each part of the body to the corresponding biped part. The bad part is, you would have parts going into each other, but sometimes its not that noticeable when textured
Good Grief that's frieghtening!
Only 76K Polys? is that before or after Subdivision?

warhammer 40k kicks ass! that is one uber l33t terminator model :) are you making a whole squad? ever going to make a deathwing version?
Oh, btw, did you use a physical model as a referance?

i will try to get some extra material on by the end of the day, (wire frame, referance, and maybe close up)
it was modeled in Lightwave7. rendered in lightwave 7. but the setup was realy realy weak, i was rendering print resolution, so i was only using 3 spot lights. next i'll render a nice hdri image to make it all beautiful.
as you'll see in the referance material.. ppl could not actually fit in the suits, i actualy corrected the model some so it would be a bit more realistic.. in the figurins and art work.. the arms come out the suit above the head.. go figure. just remember that in the genre, the space marines are not really human. they have multiple organs and all kindsa weird stuff.
agian w/. the textures.. i can't pull it off. later i may uv map him.. but i need to find someone to do the textures.. if anyone he thinks they're up to the challenge, let me know

oh.. he was already setup and animatable in maya.
he wasn't too difficult to setup, only the ammunition cables were annoying, and they need to be redone, right now theri driven by a simple ik. i'm going to remove it, and replace it w/ a spline ik..
he deforms quite well and has a good range of motion, i already did one test anim that had quite satisfactory results

That shouldnt be hard to set up for animation and he could fit in there....crunched up in a little ball (like a circus side show contortionist) inside the chest tub and driving the suit with controls also inside the chest.
Excellent work man.

Wow. Kickass. Love the massiveness and massive detail. Absolutely insane. :buttrock:
Only thing I could possibly crit on it is it would be nice to have more of a 'something' at the head/armor join..an opening, gasket, wetsuit neck, something, not sure what's right for this particular suit, but that's sticking out as weird. The rest is absolute genius. Hope one of your friends is crazy enough to surface it, would be awesome to see that. :)

That model is uber sick. Rock out some textures and that thing will own. Also work up a render with some good lighting that really shows us the beauty in the forms of the model.

PS. uber sick means its cool

still looking for someone to texture it,
right now i'm re-rendering the image using hdri, plus traditional lights for nice shadowing.
its currently rendering.. and should be done by monday.. hopefully// it print res.. so may take a lil while.
i'll make sure to post it as soon as it is done.
also.. over the weekend.. i think i may do a quick walk cycle for the heck of it

AAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok ok ok ok ok.................
i give up..
i'll texture it!
but... first i have another model that i'm working on ove rthe next month. i'm workign with a very talented concept artist, and we're trying to create somethign original hear(ok.. not that original, its humonoid, and based on a character i made for shadow run.. but not so identifieable as warhammer.
either way, his time is very valuable, and we're both puttin a lot of time into it, so can't really put it aside.
but i promise i will try to get a texture onto this guy.
for right now, there is a render going, using GI, it's uh... taking slightly longer thn expected, it started of at about 30 minutes per line. there being 103, that wasn't too bad... but.. well...
we're at line 38.. and its going about 1 line every 2 hours..... sooo... it's going to be about another 5.416 days.. before its ready:annoyed:
but hea.. good thing to those who wait.. right?:hmm:

Hey. Decent model. Couple crits though....
The axe blade looks like it is barely cutting through the floor and the pivot in the foot seems to be notching into the armor where it is rotating. Where is your light source coming from? These are all things you need to think about in the professional world. Maybe post this in the work in progress section rather than in the finished work area. We should also see some textures on him too. I think it would really show off your modeling skills. As for software were you using Rhino or Bryce for this? I like Bryce it’s a fun program and very in depth. Maybe you should use that to light it instead of the program you used. It might help get rid of all those shadows that are all over his armor.
As for facial geometry you need to work on that a little bit. I see a 5 edges sharing one vert right next to one that has 3 faces next to one that 5 more edges. You will get some weird hits on the surface if you don’t fix that.
Attached is a picture of your lack of attention to detail that I would like to point out to you.

EpShot.. it was done in Lightwave. I know this for a fact because it was posted on the Newtek forums.
Very nice work man!
I've always been a fan of 40k. You've done the Terminator justice!

07-13-2002, 02:06 AM
EpSh0t: Bryce?! What the hell are u talking about. I u can model something like this in bryce then ... then ... then I'll go mad!
Another thing: be more friendly to someone who has such modeling skills. OK, maybe u are right about those LITTLE faults in his model, but there's a normal way to tell that u know.
Bye now, I'm going to make (well I'm trying too) make some cool stuff in the Morrowind TES editor!!! This ROCKS!

LOL...
do not be so impressed w/ the finding of this littiel man.. for i was the one to point them out to him ...
in class...
he did not find them on his home.. except the 5 stared vertex.
bryce.. yea........ i used that once...... to export terrain.. that was about it..
as for the gi render.. its about 85% done. its on 194 hours so far.. it was doing 30 minutes per line(w/ 103 total) but once it got into the heavy geometry.. it was more like 3 hours per line..
hopefully will be done by monday :hmm:
thanx for the comments
zack
yes the new gi render will have the same "errors" it uses a pose using an old character setup, which has since been changed.. though i posted on 3 boards.. and nobody noticed(or mentioned) any of the errors..

i'm goign to be getting a job as a modeler, so until i have asolid job in place.. i'll be beefing up my portfolio. right now all i got is this guy and a whole bunch of game models.
though i have been lazy.. just been playin wc3 for the past week while i waited for concept art.. but tonight was my last night. tomorrow(after i get some sleep first) well, also i'm getting ready for graduation.. so the next model will probably take another month.. but it should definitely kik some @$$
