View Full Version : Slow interface speed in OSX?
barnabythebear 02-26-2004, 08:25 PM Hi,
Thinking of buying Maya and have been playing with both mac and PC ple version. I was quite surprided at how much faster the interface is under windows; window opening/scrolling etc. Also, I often get a messed up screen when scroling in the attribute window. Is this likely to be a graphic card issue? My mac has an mx4 card (dual867,10.2.8). Would a new card solve this?
Many thnaks

a 3d card helps alot, the officaly supported ones are the quadro and firegl seriers. I also belive some 3d labs and matrox cards r supported.
Id go for a quadro (not too sure if u can on a mac).
If not, nvidia cards work better in maya compared to ati radeons.

10.3 supposedly fixes alot of graphics issues in opengl according to the hardware docs on alias' site. Also your using an 800mhz box which isnt exactly the fastest machine out there.

I'm using a dual 867 with maya 5.01 and it works well under os 10.2 but 10.3 has some bugs crawling to the surface that STILL haven't been corrected by apple or alias.
I have no problems with speed or interface and everything seems to work really well considering.
Basically alias hasn't compiled maya for optimal use on the mac
the've delegated Mac users to the bottom of the pile.
Go for Linux!!

Thanks for the advice?
Are there standard benchmarks like Cinema 4D's Cinebench that show compartaive performance?
Thanyou very much,
