What OS should I be using for 3d- Maya, Photoshop, and AfterEffects?

I'm currently running a P4 2.8C under Win2000 SP4. Does XP have any advantages other than being a more stable OS? Hyperthreading in Maya?

For Maya:

Maya in XP has one noticeble problem in that when it renders extensive scenes, the render window will simply go white and you won't be able to cancel the render.

This problem however can be easily fixed by setting the Maya executable's compatibility mode to Win2000.

Other than that, not much difference I think.

XP's only true advantage over 2k is Hyperthreading on a Dual Xeon system.

That and the fact that there will be no 64 bit version of 2000, so any Athlon64/Opteron users (who wish to take additional advantage of their processors) will eventually have to switch to Windows XP.

Comparing the two, Windows XP is just a bloated version of 2k with some additional useless consumer features, and a "few" decent professional ones.

Aka if your using 2k, and your not running a Dual Xeon, stick with 2k until you HAVE to upgrade to XP.

No need to waste time porting to an OS you don't yet need.
